Instructions for GIFSETUP.EXE for use with ADLOGO v2.25 and higher NOTE: .GIF Support in AdLogo is only available to REGISTERED Sysops With the introduction of ADLOGO version 2.25, ADLOGO now has the ability to insert into a GIF file not only the GIF Comment (LOGO) but an Picture-OverLay! This 'Picture-OverLay', for ADLOGO, is an area of the GIF image itself that is displayed to the user when the GIF Image is viewed with ANY GIF viewer. Unlike the GIF Comment, only selected GIF viewers had the ability to view a comment. The size of this area will depend on the actual size of the GIF image that ADLOGO is inserting the Pucture-OverLay into. For example, if ADLOGO places this Picture-OverLay into a 640x480 GIF, then this overlay will appear in the upper-left corner. If the GIF is a 320x200, then this overlay will appear as the entire 1/3 top of the image. 1Kx768 GIFs, will be similar to 640x480 GIF, only smaller. This OverLay is a *TIMED* overlay image. Meaning, that when the GIF image has filled the screen, this overlay will appear for a period of 10 seconds, then disappear and the orginal image is still intact! The color of this overlay will depend on the Global Color Map of the GIF image itself. (If you don't understand about GIF images, don't worry.. This means that the forground and backround colors for this overlay will be different from GIF to GIF.) Now, the size of this OverLay is 3 lines with a max. of 30 chars per line. Any NORMAL Low-ASCII character can be placed into this overlay. I have created this program, GIFSETUP.EXE to help simplify the process of having ADLOGO insert this OverLay into you GIFs. As you recall, for ADLOGO to process a GIF Comment, you first had to upload your ZipComment file (LOGO.TXT) to our support board, and then the board would process that file into a GIF Comment extension. Well, the same holds true for this feature, too. However, with this util, I hope I can ease the pain of creating the OverLay information for you! NOTE: Make sure that PKZip.EXE is in a PATH or the current directory before executing GIFSETUP.EXE! To get started, simply type GIFSETUP and press enter. You are first prompted for the FULL Path and Filename of your board's ZipComment (LOGO). (ie: C:\PCB\COMMENT.TXT) Next, you are prompted for the Drive and Path to your communications program's SENDing directory. Here is where GIFSETUP will place the required file need to be uploaded to our support board. (ie: D:\QMODEM\SEND) Now, the next three prompts are the 3 lines of text that you wish to be displayed in the Picture-OverLay. You are allowed 3 lines with a MAX. of 30 chars per line. There is NO need to center your text for each line, GIFSETUP will automatically take care of that for you! After you press enter on the last line, GIFSETUP will process the 3 lines of text you have just entered AND a copy of your ZipComment into a .ZIP file called ADLGIF.TXT into your SENDing directory. This is NOT a normal text file. It is in .ZIP format. The reason for givng this file the extension of .TXT is so that when uploaded to our support board, no extra time is wasted online while ZipLab scans thru the .ZIP file and all that other garbage! Now, call our support board, J>oin conference #34 (OTS Support), and upload the ADLGIF.TXT file. You may use any protocol you wish, however, the BBS will automatically send back to you your GIFCOM.EXT file using ZModem. Once the upload is complete, type ADL at the Main Menu prompt. The board is now processing your ADLGIF.TXT file. During the process, you will *NOT* see *ANY* information come across your screen! The process should take NO MORE that 2 minutes. After the ADL process is completed, the board will come back online, and will start the download process of the GIFCOM?.EXT file using Zmodem. (The ? in GIFCOM?.EXT will either be a 1 or 2, depending on which node you have logged into.) Once the transfer is completed, you may now copy the GIFCOM?.EXT file to the path\filename pointed to in the ADLOGO.CFG for the GIF Comment Extension and you're all set! If you run into any problems, feel free to call our voice support at (401)454-8097. Enjoy... Mike
