SYTOS PLUS OS/2 1.36 UPDATED DEVICE DRIVERS FOR COLORADO MEMORY SYSTEMS JUMBO 120/250 DRIVES Beta Version JUNE 10, 1993 ************************************************************ This README provides instructions for installing the follow- ing Beta version device drivers for JUMBO 120/250 tape drives: CMM_Q80G.SYS CMA_Q80G.SYS The following information is included: 1. Description of the Device Drivers 2. Beta Support Telephone Number 3. Limitations Addressed 4. Instructions for Installing the Device Drivers ------------------------------------------------------ 1. DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVICE DRIVERS ------------------------------------------------------ The Beta version drivers have been updated to address the limitations described in this README. The driver names and Beta version numbers are as follows: CMM_Q80G.SYS (Rev. 1.04) - for Micro Channel systems CMA_Q80G.SYS (Rev. 1.04) - for PCs, XTs, and non- Micro Channel systems ------------------------------------------------------- 2. BETA SUPPORT TELEPHONE NUMBER ------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions about this product, or problems to report, contact your Sytron Beta Support Representative at: 508-898-0100 x6003. -------------------------------------------------------- 3. LIMITATIONS ADDRESSED -------------------------------------------------------- This section lists limitations of the existing JUMBO 120/250 device drivers that have been addressed by the Beta version device drivers. 3.1 SYTOS PLUS ACCESSES THE FLOPPY DRIVE BEFORE A TAPE OPERATION Sytos Plus no longer accesses the floppy drive before accessing the tape drive. 3.2 LIMITATIONS WHEN USING AN FC-10 CONTROLLER BOARD WITH A JUMBO TAPE DRIVE With the previous device drivers, conflicts sometimes occurred if the FC-10 controller and floppy drive controller used the same DMA and Interrupt address settings. If a conflict occurred, the following could happen: - The floppy drive was disabled after Sytos Plus accessed the tape drive, requiring a system reboot. - Possible OS/2 operating system crashes. The Beta version drivers address both of these issues. You should now be able to use the same DMA and Interrupt address settings for an FC-10 or TC-15 board and the floppy drive controller. NOTE: If you use the same settings, you should not access the floppy drive using another application while the Backup is running. 3.3 SUPPORT FOR TC-15 AND TC-15M TAPE CONTROLLER BOARDS Sytos Plus 1.36 for OS/2 now supports TC-15 and TC-15M tape controller boards for JUMBO 120/250 tape drives. 3.3.1 Installing a TC-15 Controller Board After installing a TC-15 controller board, you must reboot the OS/2 operating system, and configure the tape drive as a Sytos Plus backup device. Refer to the instructions for installing an FC-10 controller, in the "Read Me First" flyer. 3.3.2 Installing a TC-15M Controller Board Before installing Sytos Plus, make sure that the TC-15M controller board is properly configured. For configura- tion instructions, refer to the documentation that came with the TC-15M board. Once the TC-15M controller is properly installed and configured using the System Reference Diskette, the device settings are automatically determined when you configure the tape drive as a Sytos Plus backup device. 3.4 "W32: DEVICE SETTINGS DO NOT MATCH" MESSAGES For JUMBO 120/250 tape drives configured on the floppy drive controller only the following settings are valid: DMA 2, Interrupt 6, I/O Address 3F0. Using previous device drivers, some users received a "W32" message with these settings. This has been addressed by the Beta version device drivers. 3.5 "E 128: HARDWARE ERROR" MESSAGES The Beta drivers reduce the occurrence of "E 128" error messages. The E128 messages occurred under various conditions. If you receive an E128 error message, choose [Esc] and rerun your Procedure. If you continue to receive E128 messages, and cannot run your Procedure, contact your Beta representative. 3.6 UNCLEAR MESSAGE FOR DE-SPOOLED TAPE A more informative error code is available if a tape becomes de-spooled. The following message: "E40: Cannot Access Backup Device" has been replaced with this message: "E82: Media is unusable". 3.7 MULTI-TASKING NOT AVAILABLE DURING A SYTOS PLUS TAPE PRE-FORMAT Multi-tasking is now possible during all stages of a tape format. ----------------------------------------------------- 4. INSTALLING THE DEVICE DRIVERS ----------------------------------------------------- To install the Beta drivers after Sytos Plus is installed, use the following steps: 1. If you have not yet installed Sytos Plus, use the instructions that came with your Sytos Plus package to install Sytos Plus and choose your backup device. 2. Copy the following updated device driver files into the \SYPLUS\SYFILES directory on the drive where Sytos Plus is installed: NOTE: Rename the old driver files before copying the updated driver files. CMM_Q80G.SYS CMM_Q80G.DLL CMA_Q80G.SYS CMA_Q80G.DLL The default directory is C:\SYPLUS\SYFILES. 3. Shutdown and reboot your system. NOTE: Check the device driver version number on your screen during bootup, to verify that you have the correct version installed. The drivers for this Beta release are Rev. 1.04. 4. Start Sytos Plus. You may receive the following message that the device is not configured properly: "E21: Backup Device Specified Does Not Exist in the List of Configured Devices." Select [Esc]. 5. Go to the "Utilities: Backup Device setup..." window. Highlight and delete the existing driver. 6. Select "Add new device." The "Add New Backup Device" window opens. 7. Select the device driver and choose [OK]. The "Setup Backup Device" window opens. 8. Edit the device settings if necessary. For JUMBO 120/250 tape drives that use the floppy drive controller, only these settings are valid: DMA 2, Interrupt 6, I/O Address 3F0. 9. Select [OK]. If you receive the following message, the settings are not valid: "W32: Device Settings Do Not Match" To correct the problem, check that the settings are not being used by another device in your system. NOTE: If your JUMBO 120/250 tape drive is configured to use the floppy drive controller, and you receive this message, contact your Beta representative. 10. Choose [OK] to save the edits. * * * END OF README * * * f
