------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boot Block Recovery Procedure for Anigma 486 Gateway 2000 Motherboard ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original BIOS version: Phoenix A486 1.01 Micro Firmware Upgrade BIOS: Phoenix 4.03.6.xx M4GS50 or 4.05.xx M4HS50 The boot block procedure is normally used only if there no BIOS code or invalid BIOS code in the flash chip, resulting in a black screen on poweron. This procedure can also used to restore the original BIOS. The procedure requires a valid recovery disk, normally created during installation of a flash BIOS upgrade. We can provide a recovery disk, if needed, at no charge. (Download ANIGMA.EXE from our BBS). 1. Turn system off 2. Move boot-block jumper J18 to pins 1-2. J18 is located between flash chip and slot in center of motherboard. You may also need to move the flash chip write-protect jumper J19 - pins 1-2 enable write, pins 2-3 prevent writing to flash chip. 3. Insert recovery disk (created when installing new BIOS) 4. Turn system on Diskette drive light will come on, speaker will issue a few beeps, followed by a siren sound. Diskette access light will remain on, there will be nothing on display screen. When process is finished (about 4 minutes), the same siren sound will issue from speaker and the diskette light will be off. 5. Turn system off, remove diskette. (NOTE - if you do not remove the diskette or turn the system off when the diskette drive light is off, the light may come back on and the process may repeat.) 6. Move jumper J-18 back to pins 2-3. You may wish to move jumper J19 to pins 2-3 (flash chip write-protect) This will prevent accidental erasure of flash chip. 7. Turn system on, setup CMOS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Micro Firmware Technical Support Voice 405-321-8333 email support@firmware.com Fax 405-321-8342 WWW http://www.firmware.com BBS 405-573-5538 CIS GO PCVEND Section 8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ rev 11/21/95 tls
