************* HOW TO PROGRAM THE FLASH ROM ************* First you need to find out which types of the flash BIOS on the motherboard by taking off the BIOS label ( If there is a label on top of the BIOS). There are two types of the flash BIOS (SST and CSI) currently being used on Shuttle's motherboards. (1) For BIOS chip made by SST, use "FLASH.EXE". (2) For BIOS chip made by CSI, use "F12.EXE" and move the cap from pin 2-3 to pin 1-2 on JP14. Please move the cap back to pin 2-3 on JP14 after update the BIOS. Next, go through the following steps: 1. Copy the file "FLASH.EXE" (or "F12.EXE") and the file you want to program (.bin) into the same directory of the hard drive in your system. 2. Disable the external cache and hidden refresh in the CMOS setup. 3. Reboot the system and press F5 during boot-up to bypass "CONFIG.SYS" and "AUTOEXEC.BAT". 4. Execute "FLASH.EXE" (or "F12.EXE"). 5. First it will ask you if you want to save the current BIOS. Please select YES. The program will save the current BIOS into a file named "BIOS.OLD". 6. Next it will ask you if you want to start updating the BIOS. Please type YES. 7. After the BIOS is updated, the program will reboot the system automatically. The procedure is complete. Note: The cap on JP14 MUST be moved back to pin 2-3 position after the update procedure is complete. And don't forget to enable the external cache after step 7. Please dial Shuttle BBS (409)956-5712 and go to the subdirectory named BIOS to download the required files. The file "543_R12.exe" is the AWARD BIOS released version R1.2 for HOT-543. The file "5x3_AMI.exe " is the AMI BIOS beta version for both HOT-523 and HOT-543.
