WORDPERFECT CORPORATION UPGRADES WORDPERFECT 5.1 FOR DOS;
DESIGNS PRODUCT FOR USERS ON LOWER-END MACHINES

New upgrade, called WordPerfect 5.1+ will cost $49.95; offers
users on lower-end machines powerful new features and seamless
file compatibility with WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS and Windows

WordPerfect Corporation has announced WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS,
an upgrade to WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS targeted at users on lower-
end machines who want new functionality but do not have the
hardware required to run the latest versions of other word
processors.  The company also announced it would lower the
upgrade price for WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS from the standard $129
to $49.95.

The product is scheduled to ship by the end of March, 1994. 
According to company officials, the release of WordPerfect 5.1+
for DOS represents WordPerfect Corporation's ongoing commitment
to serve all DOS customers, including those on lower-end machines
who do not wish to upgrade their hardware in order to have access
to new word processing functionality. 

WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS, currently the best-selling DOS word
processor in the world, remains the company's premiere DOS
solution for users on mid-to-higher range machines. 

WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS includes the identical feature set and
file format found in WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS, plus many new
additions including:

Seamless File Conversions with WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS and
Windows
WordPerfect 5.1+ seamlessly imports WordPerfect 6.0 for Windows
and DOS files and also allows users to save WordPerfect 5.1 files
in a WordPerfect 6.0 format. This feature makes it possible for
workgroups using both WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS and WordPerfect 6.0
for DOS or Windows to seamlessly share files with one another
without having to save all documents in a WordPerfect 5.1 format.
                    
Full Fax Services
First available in WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS, Full Fax Services
allow WordPerfect 5.1+ users to send faxes directly from within
the WordPerfect program. WordPerfect 5.1+ will support all Fax
Bios-compatible fax hardware, as well as Class 1, Class 2 and
CAS-compliant fax devices.

New File Manager
WordPerfect 5.1+ allows users to sort all files by date, time,
and size, making file management much more powerful and
convenient.

E-mail Capabilities
With WordPerfect 5.1+, users can e-mail any document directly
from within WordPerfect using WordPerfect Office.

New Conversion Driver Support (additional disk, available
separately)
All of the drivers available in WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS and
Windows are now available to WordPerfect 5.1+users, including
file conversions for WordPerfect 3.0 for the Macintosh, MS Word
2.0 for Windows, Lotus Ami Pro 3.0 for Windows, MS Word 5.5 for
DOS, and the latest versions of MultiMate, DisplayWrite,
Professional Write, WordStar, MS Windows Write, OfficeWriter and
XyWrite. 

As an added value for customers, WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS will
include two of the most popular WordPerfect add-on products of
all time; ScreenExtender  Special Edition from Stairway Software
and a special edition of Bitstream FaceLift.

ScreenExtender  Special Edition (SE) for WordPerfect 5.1+
ScreenExtender SE dramatically increases WordPerfect productivity
by eliminating the user's need to scroll left and right while
editing a document containing proportionally spaced, scalable or
compressed fonts in the traditional Text Mode screen available in
WordPerfect 5.1+. ScreenExtender SE also provides 5.1+ users with
a WYSIWYG representation of WordPerfect font attributes like
bold, italics, underline, double underline, small caps and others
and allows users to choose from a variety of screen sizes, on
demand, from within WordPerfect 5.1+. ScreenExtender SE is
specifically designed for WordPerfect 5.1+; ScreenExtender 3.0
will continue to be the product of choice for WordPerfect 6.0
users.

Bitstream FaceLift Special Edition For WordPerfect 5.1+
Bitstream FaceLift Special Edition for WordPerfect 5.1+ provides
users with eleven scalable fonts, including styles such as Dutch,
Swiss, Courier, Ribbon and Revue . Bitstream FaceLift allows
WordPerfect 5.1+ users to print scalable fonts from a 2 to 500
point size. Users can even create their own custom fonts from
Bitstream typefaces. Because both WordPerfect 6.0 and WordPerfect
5.1+ support the same Bitstream font technology, all WordPerfect
users can now have complete font compatibility between
WordPerfect 5.1 and WordPerfect 6.0 for both DOS and Windows.

WordPerfect Corporation designed WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS to
carry the same hardware requirements as WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS,
allowing virtually all users on lower-end machines to upgrade
their word processor without having to upgrade their hardware.
WordPerfect 5.1+ will require an XT-class or higher IBM or
compatible machine, 5 meg of disk space and 640K of memory.

With the release of the WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS for $49.95,
WordPerfect Corporation will discontinue the sale of WordPerfect 
4.2, 5.0 and 5.1 for DOS, all of which carry an upgrade price of
$129.
