Unless a tray is locked out, paper will automatically be selected from the other tray when the default tray is empty. TRAY LOCKOUT: Allows you to lock a tray so that paper will only be selected from it if it is specifically selected. Use when you keep letterhead, transparencies, etc. loaded in one tray and don't want them used when the other tray runs out of paper. PAPER SIZE: Select the default paper size for the printer. PAPER TYPE: Select the default paper type for the printer. .end .setup Page Setup Options Help Screen ORIENTATION: Select whether you want the print orientation to be portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal). LINES/PAGE: Set the vertical spacing for the default paper size in terms of lines per page. Sixty (60) is the common setting for A-size paper. COPIES: Set the number of copies you want to print. .end .quality Print Quality Options Help Screen PRINT MODE: Select PRESENTATION for the best printing quality for graphics. Presentation does not enhance the printing of text. It will, however, slow the printing speed somewhat. Select NORMAL for most of your printing, especially text-only documents. Select ECONOFAST for the fastest printing speed, which also uses less ink. EconoFast is great for fast printing of spreadsheets. COLOR MODE: Select COLOR for color printing. Select PRINT IN GRAYSCALE to print a document in black && white and shades of gray. This setting enhances black && white graphics. It also will print a color document in shades of gray, thus providing you a high-quality master for noncolor photocopying. .end .font Font Options Help Screen These options apply only to PCL. A SYMBOL SET is a collection of letters, numbers, and symbols. If you want to print a symbol such as umlaut o (”), you must first select the symbol set that contains that character. Roman-8 is the default symbol set. A complete listing of all the symbol sets in your printer can be obtained from HP FIRST. In most cases, however, it is better to use the symbol set charts in your software manual. PITCH applies only to fixed-space typefaces and is mostly used for screen printing. Use 10 if your default paper size is Letter or Legal. Use 12 if your default paper size is A4. .end .language Language Options Help Screen Select DEFAULT LANGUAGE the printer expects to receive. PCL is the native language of the printer. POSTSCRIPT is an available option. If another language becomes available, the instructions for that language SIMM will instruct you to select Optional Language. CONTEXT SWITCHING allows the printer to automatically determine which printer language it is receiving. This allows you to send files in a different language without having to change the default. For example, if your default language is PostScript and you send a PCL file to the printer, it will automatically switch to PCL, print your file, then switch back to the default PostScript language. .end .other Other Settings Options Help Screen FAST Centronics is available on most newer computers. If your computer `hangs' or gives you a `port not recognized' message, switch to STANDARD. ENERGY STAR reduces the energy consumption of your printer after 60 minutes of idle time. It will take slightly longer to print the first page of your next document if Energy Star is active (the printer must warm up). Select the PRINTER PORT (Centronics) that your printer is connected to. PAGE PROTECT enhances memory use of the printer. It will slow your printing speed somewhat. Set Page Protect on, if you are printing multiple copies of a document and are getting `not enough memory' errors. PRINTER TIMEOUT is most applicable in network or shared printer situations. It determines the amount of time the printer will wait before looking for data from another source. .end
