Canon BJ Series Windows 95 Printer Driver - Version 3.0 ************************************************************************ Thank you for participating in the Beta testing of the Canon BJ Series Windows 95 Printer Driver - Version 3.0 BETA. Canon is beta testing the new driver to ensure the best compatibility with Windows 95 and designed for Windows 95 applications. If you have not read the READ1ST.TXT file, please do so now. This README file contains information to help you install and use your printer driver software with Microsoft Windows 95. Since this is a BETA version of the printer driver, no support of the driver is available. If you have comments about the driver or wish to submit a bur report, please fill out the form in the WIN95BUG.DOC file included with the drivers. Additional information and updated printer drivers may be posted on CompuServe and Canon's BBS from time to time. CONTENTS ======== System Requirements Installing the Printer Driver into Windows 95 Accessing the Printer Properties Dialog Box Accessing Help Information Using the Print Set-up Analyzer Hints for Color Printing Hints for Monochrome Printing For Windows 3.0, 3.1 and 3.11 Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions System Requirements =================== The Canon Bubble Jet Series Printer Driver does not require any additional system configuration beyond those required to run Windows 95. However, you can improve the performance of your Canon printer if you: 1. Increase the amount of RAM memory to more than 8 MB. Increasing RAM memory will result in faster printing and reduce compatibility problems with some applications. As an alternative, you can increase the amount of virtual memory to reduce the possibility of "low memory" conditions (although this does not improve printing performance). 2. Allow at least 5 MB of hard disk space on the drive that contains your system's TEMP directory. Removing the Microsoft Mini Driver ================================== If you are currently using a Windows 3.1x driver or the Windows 95 Mini drivers from Microsoft, you will want to remove the old driver before installing this driver. Alternatively, you can click on the question-mark (?) symbol in the upper right corner of each dialog box, and then click on any item to display help for that item. In addition, a brief one-line message appears near the bottom of each tab to display information about each group of selections as you move your mouse cursor over them. Using the Print Set-up Analyzer =============================== This printer driver includes an automatic "Print Set-up Analyzer" to help you use your printer more efficiently. The Print Set-up Analyzer identifies any inconsistencies in your setup selections, and allows you to correct them if you wish. By default, the Print Set-up Analyzer is enabled. You can disable it in the Setting tab of the Printer Properties dialog box. Hints for Color Printing ======================== If your printer is capable of printing in color and uses interchangeable ink cartridges, be sure that a color ink cartridge is installed in the printer. You should also select the appropriate Print Model from the Graphics tab in the Printer Properties dialog box. 1. Select the "Quick Color" or "Full Color" icon from the Color Model group on the Graphics tab. The "Quick Color" mode allows you to generate good quality color output with fast performance. The "Full Color" mode allows you to print the full color spectrum with somewhat slower performance and control other printing features. 2. If you selected the "Full Color" icon, select the appropriate Print Model: - Automatic selects the halftoning methods to produce optimum print quality for all types of images - Graphics and Text selects the halftoning methods to produce optimum print print quality for solid text and business graphics, with the emphasis on enhancing color saturation - Photo selects the halftoning method to produce optimum print quality for scanned photographs or bitmapped images - Custom offers more advanced control over halftoning patterns, bit depth, color adjustment and intensity. These advanced options are not intended for novice users of color printers. Hints for Monochrome Printing ============================= All Canon bubble-jet printer models are capable of printing in monochrome mode. If your printer is also capable of printing in color and uses interchangeable ink cartridges, you should install a black ink cartridge for better printing efficiency. Then use the following procedure on your computer system: 1. If you have a color printer, select the "Monochrome" icon from the Color Model group on the Graphics tab (this selection is not available for monochrome-only printer models). 2. Select the appropriate Print Model: - Automatic selects the halftoning methods to produce optimum print quality for all types of images - Graphics and Text selects the halftoning methods to produce optimum print print quality for solid text and business graphics, with the emphasis on enhancing color saturation - Photo selects the halftoning method to produce optimum print quality for scanned photographs or bitmapped images - Custom offers more advanced control over halftoning patterns, bit depth, color adjustment and intensity. These advanced options are not intended for novice users of color printers. For Windows 3.0, 3.1 and 3.11 ============================= This printer driver does not support Windows versions 3.0, 3.1 and 3.11. Please contact your local Canon company to obtain a driver for these versions of Windows. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions ======================================= 1. If your printer is capable of printing in color, do not attempt to print in "Color" mode when a black ink cartridge is installed in your printer. The results will be unpredictable. 2. A known problem in Corel Mosaic Version 5.0 may cause incomplete printed output. Please contact Corel Corporation for an update. 3. Color Advisor is not enabled in this BETA version of the printer driver. The production release of this driver will include Color Advisor. If you need to use Color Advisor, please re-install your Windows 3.1x printer drivers.
