Ultra Update Ultra Memory Requirements To ensure that your Ultra adapter operates properly, eliminate all memory conflicts with installed devices by adding the following statements to the appropriate files before running EZStart: USING MEMORY MANAGERS If you use a memory manager such as EMM386, 386MAX, or QEMM, add an EXCLUDE statement in your CONFIG.SYS file to prevent your memory manager from using the area occupied by your Ultra adapter. For example, if your adapter is going to use the factory default RAM window of CC00-CFFF, the EXCLUDE statement for EMM386 is: DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=CC00-CFFF If you use a different memory manager, refer to its user manual. USING WINDOWS 3.x AND WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS Add an EMMEXCLUDE= statement to the [386 Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI file to prevent Windows or Windows for Workgroups from using the area of memory occupied by your Ultra adapter. For example, if your adapter is going to use the factory default RAM window of CC00-CFFF, the EMMEXCLUDE= statement is: [386Enh] EMMEXCLUDE=CC00-CFFF Ultra Driver for Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 The SMC driver shipped with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 is not as current as the driver on your SMC SuperDisk. Use the driver on your SMC SuperDisk for Windows for Workgroups 3.11. 1. MAKE YOUR SMC SuperDisk THE WINDOWS DRIVER-INSTALLATION DISK With your SMC SuperDisk in drive A, use EZStart to copy the Microsoft Windows for Workgroups v3.11 (NDIS Driver) drivers from the Network Operating System Selection screen to A:\NDIS. Your SMC SuperDisk can now be used as the Windows driver-installation disk. DO NOT select Microsoft Windows for Workgroups v3.1 (NDIS Driver) from EZStart. The Windows for Workgroups version 3.1 driver is different than the Windows for Workgroups version 3.11 driver. 2. ADD THE UPDATED SMC DRIVER FROM THE DRIVER-INSTALLATION DISK To install the updated SMC driver using the Windows driver-installation disk you created in step 1, select Add Adapter followed by Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter in the Windows for Workgroups Network Setup dialog box.
