This installation guide describes how to: o Use EZStart to copy the DEC PATHWORKS version 4.1 for DOS NDIS driver files from the SuperDisk to your PC. o Prepare your operating system so you can attach to the network. Note: This driver supports all SMC TokenCard EliteSeries ISA and Micro Channel Token-Ring adapters. COPYING THE DRIVER FILES From the Driver Installation screen, select 'Copy Files' to copy all the files used by this driver from the SuperDisk to the Destination Directory recommended by EZStart, or to a different directory that you specify. PREPARING YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM 1. Insert the DEC Pathworks Client Setup diskette #1 into your computer's disk drive. 2. Type: NETSETUP 3. Press the Enter key. 4. When prompted about whether you have an LK250 keyboard, specify 'N(o)' if you do not have this type of keyboard. 5. Select the DECNET option and press Enter. 6. Insert the DNET TRNSPRT diskette into your computer's disk drive. 7. Specify the destination drive letter. 8. When the prompt 'Are you creating an initial workstation diskette' appears, select N(o). 9. Type the node name and address. 10. Press Enter. 11. Type the server node name and number. 12. When prompted about whether you have an LK250 keyboard, specify 'N(o)' if you do not have this type of keyboard. 13. Select 'Token-Ring' and press Enter. 14. Select 'LAN Manager-Supplied NDIS'. 15. Press the Enter key twice. 16. Select 'IBM Token-Ring Adapter' and answer "No" when prompted for Source Level routing. Then press Enter twice. 17. Press F9 to write the key disk. Then press Enter. 18. Modify the PROTOCOL.INI file as required. Make sure all the values match the assigned values for the installed adapter. When you finish, press Enter. 19. Follow the screen prompts. 20. After the Write Key Disk procedure is done, press F10 from the Configuration screen to exit to DOS. 21. Copy the file SMC8100.DOS from the \NDIS subdirectory on the SuperDisk to the \DECNET subdirectory on your computer's hard disk. 22. Using any text editor, edit the CONFIG.SYS file by replacing the line: device=\DECNET\IBMTOK.DOS with this line: device=\DECNET\SMC8100.DOS 23. Use any text editor to make the following changes to the PROTOCOL.INI file in the \DECNET subdirectory: - Add the following lines: [SMC] Drivername = SMC8100$ - Change the BINDINGS= statements in the [IPX4MAC] and [DATALINK] sections from: IBMTOK.DOS to: SMC - Remove the semicolon (;) in front of the NI_IRQ statement. Make sure the ni_irq value in the [DATALINK] section matches the irq value of the network adapter.
