This README file describes how to enable the RPL function on workstations with a bootable hard disk. Two utilities, NDCRPLEN.EXE and NDCRPLDS.EXE, are provided for enabling the RPL function on workstations with bootable hard disks. Since both Instant-Link and ND41xx products are software confi- gurable, the first thing to enable the RPL function is to run the configuration software to determine the RPL segment address. To use your adapter's (Instant-Link and ND41xx) RPL function and boot your PC workstation from the network server, you must enable the RPL function on the workstation by turning the hard disk (if present in the workstation) into a non-bootable device. - NDCRPLEN.EXE, allows you to deactive your hard disk's boot partition and enable the RPL function while keep your hard disk accessible. - NDCRPLDS.EXE, allows you to re-activate your hard disk's boot partition and disable the workstation's RPL function. Note: * The NDCRPLDS.EXE program assumes your hard disk boot device to be Drive C:. If you don't use drive C: to boot your workstation you must use the DOS FDISK.EXE command to activate your hard disk's boot partition. * The NDCRPLEN.EXE and NDCRPLDS.EXE programs are in RPL directory of this diskette. ***************************************************************** This section of the README file applies only to the NDET06 RPL modules used on the Instant-Link and ND41xx products for NetWare server. ***************************************************************** To enable the RPL function on a workstation installed with an Instant-Link or ND41xx adapter and the NDET06 RPL Module, accomplish the following steps to boot from your NetWare server. (1) Login as supervisor to the NetWare 3.1X server. Copy "RBOOT.RPL" to the F:\LOGIN directory and "RPL.NLM" to the F:\SYSTEM directory. (2) Load RPL.NLM and then Bind RPL to the Ethernet driver with ETHERNET_802.2 frame in NetWare server. A sample of the commands to type follows: :LOAD NE2000 frame=ETHERNET_802.2 :BIND IPX TO NE2000 :LOAD RPL :BIND RPL TO NE2000 Note: * "RBOOT.RPL" and "RPL.NLM" in RPL directory of this diskette are for NetWare 3.1X server. You don't have to do step (1) for NetWare 4.0X server since these two files are included in it as default.
