MICROSOFT'S NETWORK DRIVER INTERFACE SPEC (NDIS) ================================================ This file covers the installation procedures for the following networks: Banyan Vines DOS Workstation (Version 4.0+) Sun Microsystems PC-NFS (Version 3.5+) IBM Local Area Network Support Program (Version 1.2+) ****************************************************************************** * Banyan Vines DOS Workstation (Version 4.0+) ****************************************************************************** 1. Create a Banyan subdirectory on your workstation hard disk. For example: C:> MD \VINES 2. Copy the files GCS1NDIS.DOS and PROTOCOL.INI from the \NDIS subdirectory on your Drivers Diskette to the \VINES subdirectory just created. 3. Copy the files from the VINES Master diskette into the \VINES subdirectory. 4. Copy the NDIS driver files from \NDIS subdirectory on the VINES LAN Drivers diskette into the \VINES subdirectory. 5. Using a text editor, edit the CONFIG.SYS file to include the following lines: DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES DEVICE = C:\VINES\GCS1NDIS.DOS 6. Type PCCONFIG. 7. From the menu select Network Card Settings. Select NDIS as the default network driver and configure the NDIS driver as follows: Interrupt Level (2-15) : 7 PROTOCOL.INI bindings = GCS1000_NIF 8. Press F10 to save and ESC to return to the main menu. 9. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file with the additional lines: CD \VINES BAN /NC NDISBAN REDIRALL Z:LOGIN admin@eng@testing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The above will work satisfactorily for VINES revision 5.50(1) and above. For earlier VINES versions it is necessary to "Patch" the server for NDIS 2.10 support. Patches for VINES are as follows VINES 4.11(5) Patch 5005-EA-1 VINES 5.00(5) Patch 4115-FW-1 Patches are available to Authorised Resellers through their support channel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ****************************************************************************** * Sun Microsystems PC-NFS (Version 3.5+) ****************************************************************************** 1. Install PC-NFS for Ethernet according to instructions in the PC-NFS documentation. Choose NDIS setup, and complete the setup. 2. Rename the file PROTOCOL.NFS in the C:\LANMAN subdirectory to PROTOCOL.INI. Use an ASCII text editor to edit the PROTOCOL.INI file as follows: Replace the items [your-mac-module] drivername = YOURMAC$ [NFS-NDIS] drivername = NFSLINK1 bindings = your-mac-module with [GCS1000_NIF] drivername = GCS1000$ [NFS-NDIS] drivername = NFSLINK1 bindings = GCS1000_NIF 3. Copy the file GCS1NDIS.DOS from the \NDIS subdirectory on your Drivers Diskette to the C:\LANMAN subdirectory. 4. Use an ASCII text editor to insert the following lines in your CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE = C:\LANMAN\GCS1NDIS.DOS between DEVICE = C:\LANMAN\PROTMAN.SYS DEVICE = C:\LANMAN\NFS-NDIS.SYS 5. Reboot the PC. ****************************************************************************** * IBM Local Area Network Support Program (Version 1.2+) ****************************************************************************** 1. Install the IBM Local Area Network Support Program according to the instructions in the User's Guide. 2.
