NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: WIN2NCS v2.11 README FOR: W2N211.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: NetWare Connect 2.0 ABSTRACT: W2N211.EXE ver. 2.11 is a new version of Win2NCS which contains all of the features of WIN2NCS 2.10, plus enhances NT support and provides better installation options and control. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. See the README.WRI for more specific information. 1.Windows NT is now supported. However, there is still an issue with the interaction of Win2NCS with Microsoft's TAPI which may cause problems with Host mode on some Remote Control applications. This is currently under investigation. 2. Added an Express install option that will automatically have Configuration files managed in Installed directory, and, under Windows 95, will register ports 3 and 4 only for use as NASI ports. 3. Under Windows 95, one now has the ability to specify which ports should be registered as NASI ports. Previously, Win2NCS would automatically map ports 3-8 if they were available. 4. Removed the Confirmation dialog when selecting the "Specify 4x Context" checkbox in Set Win2NCS Security. 5. Added a Global option which removes the need for user intervention if Win2NCS attempts to access a port which is already in use. 6. Redesigned the Win2NCS help file to be easier to use. If you have a previous version of Win2NCS, run the uninstall or remove the previous version manually prior to installing this software. B. Create a temporary directory. C. "Explode" W2N211.EXE into the temporary directory. D. Run SETUP.EXE from the temporary directory and follow the on-sreen instructions. For further details, regarding Win2NCS, bring up on-line Help, after installing it. E. Adding Win2NCS Users On A Networked System --------------------------------------------- Win2NCS will manage independent configuration files (automatically generating and/or acquiring the correct configuration file on the fly, if any SETUP option for managing configuration files is used except "Configuration File Is Created In Installed Directory") for each user on a networked Windows system. Each users CONFIG file is created as soon as the user starts WIN2NCS for the first time. F. Refer to the HELP topic Win2NCS Setup, for information which will allow the Systems Administrator to predefine options (install directory, how configuration files are to be managed, and port mapping) for users of a shared install directory. G. Refer to the HELP topic Win2NCS Uninstall, for information which will allow the Systems Administrator to restrict the ability of a user to uninstall Win2NCS. H. Refer to the ON Line Help Topic "Windows 95 - 16/32 Bit Driver Differences". Some user interface actions will be different between the 16 bit and 32 bit driver. I. When running Win2NCS under Windows, on OS/2 V2.1, Windows must be brought up in STANDARD mode or, protection faults will occur in NWIPXSPX.DLL. OVERVIEW of WIN2NCS - Allows use of Windows 3.1 , Windows 95, or Windows NT communications applications which use the standard Windows communication API calls. (However, fax ability is severely limited; typically to single page faxes on networks with relatively low traffic. It appears fax program routines for queuing subsequent pages generally causes WIN2NCS to end the transmission.) From many applications faxing is not possible. - WIN2NCS by default stays active at all times while Windows is loaded (unless you turn it off). - Up to 8 NASI Redirected ports can be defined, within one Windows session. - NASI need not be loaded before running Windows. (and normally should not be) History: W2N211.EXE supersedes all prior versions of Win2NCS including: W2N210.EXE, WNCS2B.EXE, WNCS11.EXE, WINTOO.EXE, and WINNCS.EXE. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
