NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: General ManageWise Desktop patches README FOR: MWDT07.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: Novell Internet Access Server 4 ManageWise 2.1 ManageWise Console - MWISE21 ManageWise Desktop Management - MWISE21 ManageWise Remote Services - MWISE21 IPX/IP Gateway IW 4.11 ABSTRACT: 10/2/97 ReadMe update Only: (Fixed typographical errors in installation instructions.) This patch supercedes all previously released ManageWise Desktop patches by incorporating all files into one patch. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES EVERY EFFORT WITHIN ITS MEANS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: 1.) The btrieve status 46 error occurs when attempting to delete information, or add custom information, to the inventory database, and the deletion or addition of information fails. Typically, this problem occurs when trying to delete duplicate entries in the database. 2.) The on-line dialers and WUSER.EXE utilize WINSOCK.DLL (if one exists). When WUSER.EXE loads, some communication occurs with the WINSOCK.DLL and, therefore, launches the dialer. There are issues under IntraNetware -IPX/IP Gateway and Novell Internet Access Server that were fixed here, as well. NOTE: To automatically distribute these files: 1. Copy the files to the LDT directory of the ManageWise server (SERVERNAME\SYS:\MW\LDT\) 2. Modify the SERVERNAME\SYS:MW\LDT\CLNTCFG.INI file using the ADDFILE command. This process is outlined below: a. Locate the [DTM:16TONW] section of the CLNTCFG.INI file b. Add the line ADDFILEx={%WINDIR}, IMP.INI (where 'x' is the next numeric value in the list) c. Add the line ADDFILEx={%WINSYSDIR},IMP.DLL (where 'x' is the next numeric value in the list) d. Add the line ADDFILEx={%WINSYSDIR}, WUSER.EXE (where 'x' is the next numeric value in the list). Here is an EXAMPLE of what the file should look like: [DTM:16TONW] ADDDEV1=VUSER.386 ADDFILE1={%WINSYSDIR}, COEXIST.DLL . ( The numeric values in addfileX ARE ONLY EXAMPLES!! ) ADDFILE10={%WINDIR}, IMP.INI ;***This line has been added.*** ADDFILE11={%WINSYSDIR}, IMP.DLL ;***This line has been added.*** ADDFILE12={%WINSYSDIR}, WUSER.EXE ;***This line has been added.*** ADDINI1={%WINDIR}, WIN.INI, WINDOWS, LOAD, WUSER.EXE, FALSE ADDINI2={%WINDIR}, SYSTEM.INI, 386ENH, TIMERCRITICALSECTION, 10000, TRUE 3.) Problems running CCDRIVER, when Windows is being run off the network, on drive L. NOTE: Type ccdriver /? to view the options. To specify a drive other than L, use ccdriver +{drive letter}. For example, to use drive K and to run in verbose mode the command would be ccdriver +K /v. Ccdriver gets called from within mw_login.dat in the sys:public directory, so that file would need to be modified. 4.) The line "load=nwpopup" from the win.ini file is deleted when a user logs in as a member of the MANAGEWISEGROUP and his workstation is configured with the desktop management components of ManageWise. The line is re-written as: load=wuser.exe 5.) After creating a setting within the 'Device Inventory ' and saving that setting to a 'Setting Name' , subsequent saved 'setting names' are ignored. After creating a second( third, forth , etc... ) setting and saving it, the utility will only utilize the first saved setting even though the screen display indicates it is looking for something else. (ie, the second, third, etc... setting is selected) This was fixed in wsight.exe . SOLUTION: Apply this patch. On the ManageWise Console: 2.) Copy IMP.DLL and the WUSER.EXE to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on your console and ADD a newly created IMP.INI file to the \WINDOWS directory. The IMP.INI file has the following syntax: [protocol] ignore=ip (These entries are case sensitive.) 3.)
