MERCURY LOG FILE UTILITY - VERSION 2.0 Copyright 1994 by Richard Levey, All Rights Reserved INTRODUCTION This is the shareware release of MLOG. It is designed to parse the log file from Mercury and create two ASCII delimited text files which can be imported into many database programs. You may use this program for a 30 day evaluation period to determine if MLOG is of value to you. After 30 days you must register the program with the author or stop using it. You MAY NOT sell this program, the manual, or charge more than five dollars ($5 US) for a disk containing this program. You MAY NOT modify, decompile, reverse engineer or change this program. All on-line services, BBS's, FTP sites, etc; may post this program for download, even if they charge users for access. WHAT'S NEW Substantial changes have been made for release 2.0. 1. MLOG now tracks messages sent to or received from anonymous servers IF the phrase 'anon' or 'anonymous' is in the To or the From field. 2. One new field has been added to the configuration file (MLOG.CFG). A sample file is included and can be found later in the documentation. 3. The display has been changed and new fields are displayed. 4. Statistics displayed on the screen are now output to the MLOG.LOG file, if logging is activated. RUNNING THE PROGRAM By default, MLOG looks for the MERCURY.LOG file and the MLOG.CFG file in the directory it is run from. If the file is not present you will see an error message. The best way to run MLOG is to put the FULL path to the MERCURY.LOG file on the command line. For example: mlog f:\system\mercury\mercury.log This also ACTIVATES batch mode, which requires no interaction on your part. I have tested this with several 'cron' type DOS programs and DOS schedulers and it seems to work fine. The output file, MERCURY.TXT will always be in the same directory MLOG.EXE is run from, and is in ASCII delimited format with the first record in the file containing the column headers for easy identification. This is the file which is produced from parsing the MERCURY.LOG file. The output file, MLOG.LOG will always be in the same directory MLOG.EXE is run from, and is in ASCII delimited format. This file contains the stats displayed on the screen when MLOG is run. MLOG opens the MERCURY.LOG file in Shared mode for Read-Only access. Please be sure the login account you use when running MLOG has the appropriate access to the appropriate directory. MLOG CONFIGURATION FILE Several users have requested the ability to set certain options. The file MLOG.CFG now allows you to change options to suite your needs. A sample file comes in the distribution archive and can be found below. # Configuration file for MLOG.EXE - Version 2.0 # Lines starting with a '#' are comments and will be ignored # # If you want the date converted to 'U.S.' format leave the # CONVERTDATE line as it it. If you do not want dates converted # comment out the convertdate line and uncomment the second line. # CONVERTDATE #NOCONVERTDATE # # The next pair control whether or not the display is in color. # I left color off as the default, you can turn it on if you desire. NOCOLOR #COLOR # # The next pair control whether or not MLOG writes a log file. # The log file name is MLOG.LOG. The default is YES. MLOG #NOMLOG # #The next line is used to check for messages to/from your #domain. If you do not want to use this feature just put a #pound sign '#' in front of the word domain on the next line. DOMAIN=.your.domain # Note: The domain MUST be at least 2 characters in length and MUST contain at least two periods for MLOG to recognize it.
