From a small memory-resident pop-up (0 to 2-1/2KB), I-Queue! allows users to easily change NetWare print queues and modify "capture" parameters. I-Queue! for Windows is a convenient Windows application that adds similar conveniences for Windows users, combining NetWare print queue selection and Windows print driver selection into a single menu. Key features include: * Select a file server/print queue for caputuring * Capture your output to a file * Select the number of copies * Enter or choose printer setup strings from existing PRINTDEF information * Select forms * Ability to select from pre-defined PRINTCON job configurations * Select timeout interval * Enable or disable form feed * Expand or disable tabs (text or binary mode) * Enable or disable banner * Notify when job is printed (available with Novell's PSERVER and several other third-party print servers) Users can also easily display a list of jobs in any queue to determine the status of a job, as well as deleting or changing the parameters of any job that they submit before it prints. Queue operators have the added capability of deleting print jobs, moving and copying jobs between print queues, and re-ordering the position of jobs in the queue. I-Queue! also includes the OnHold utility, which allows users to submit print jobs that can automatically be placed "on hold", or delayed for printing at a later time. Another additional utility, DefCap, allows you to modify CAPTURE parameters from the command-line, but only modifies the specified parameters, leaving all others intact. INSTALLING I-QUEUE! 1.) LOGIN TO YOUR FILE SERVER AS SUPERVISOR OR A SUPERVISOR-EQUIVALENT. 2.) COPY I-QUEUE! TO YOUR SERVER Copy I-Queue!'s program files into SYS:PUBLIC or another appropriate directory on your file server. The following files are required to be accessible to all I-Queue! users. DOS Version: IQ.COM IQ.OVR IQ.HLP VIDEO.OVR IQPOPUP.COM ONHOLD.EXE DEFCAP.EXE Note: If you are running other Infinite Technologies' utilities, they share a common VIDEO.OVR file. Use the VIDEO.OVR with the most recent date stamp. Windows Version: IQW.EXE IQW.HLP IQMW.EXE IQMW.HLP 3.) RUN IQINSTAL OR IQSERIAL TO INITIALIZE I-QUEUE! Run IQINSTAL.EXE to initialize the I-Queue! 30 day trial period. If this is a purchased copy, run IQSERIAL to initialize I-Queue! for your network. 4.) RUN PRINTDEF TO DEFINE YOUR NETWORK PRINTERS. (DOS Version ONLY) This option is not required if you are only running I-Queue! Windows version. I-Queue! runs best when PRINTDEF has been used to create setup strings that can be made available for users. Execute the Novell PRINTDEF utility and select "Print Devices". NetWare comes with drivers for a variety of different printer types (the .PDF files located in SYS:PUBLIC). It is best to use these as a starting point. Select "Import Print Device" and enter SYS:PUBLIC as the path under "Source Directory". This will give you a list of available printer definition files (PDFs). Import that definitions for any printer types that you use on your network with PRINTDEF. Refer to your NetWare documentation for additional information on PRINTDEF. 5.) RUN IQSETUP TO CONFIGURE I-QUEUE! (DOS Version ONLY) This option is not required if you are only running I-Queue! Windows version. The IQSETUP.EXE utility allows you to define some additional information for use by I-Queue! Most importantly, the "Queue Defaults" option allows you to define a descriptive name and default printer type definition for each NetWare print queue. This way, when selecting setup strings for jobs directed to a particular queue, you can press in I-Queue! to see a list of pre-defined setup strings for the type of printer to which the queue is directed. Printer types must first be defined using the NetWare PRINTDEF utility, as described in #4 above. Additional options in IQSETUP include: "Enable Q_OPERATORS to Move/Copy print jobs" - In order for I-Queue! to be able to move and/or copy jobs between print queues, special rights must be given to the user. This option will grant all necessary rights to the defined Queue Operators of a queue. Queue operators are defined in the NetWare PCONSOLE utility. "Copy SUPERVISOR's Printcon.Dat to each user" - NetWare's PRINTCON job configuration information is maintained on a user by user basis, i.e., each individual has their own Printcon.Dat configuration file. Most LAN administrators would prefer to create one Printcon.Dat file that is shared by all users. This option copies the SUPERVISOR's Printcon.Dat file to all users. "Make SUPERVISOR's Printcon.Dat GLOBAL" - This option copies the SUPERVISOR's Printcon.Dat file to SYS:PUBLIC for use as a global Printcon.Dat file. If you select this option, you will need to also select the option that follows. "Modify NetWare utilities to support Global Printcon" will configure the NetWare utilities PRINTCON, NPRINT and CAPTURE to work with this global Printcon.Dat file. "Modify NetWare utilities to support Local Printcon" reverses the modifications made by the previous option. 6.) DEFINE DEFAULT WINDOWS PRINT DRIVERS FOR I-QUEUE! WINDOWS: One of the most important features of I-Queue! Windows is its ability to have default Windows print drivers defined for each NetWare print queue. When I-Queue! Windows is initially installed, the system administrator should establish a default Windows print driver or each print queue. This can be done via the I-Queue! Manager program (IQMW.EXE or the "Manage Queue" button in I-Queue!). Within I-Queue! Manager, select "Queues" from the main menu bar, highlight a queue, and select the "Options" button. The "Default Printer" defines the Windows print device that should be associated with this queue as a default. It is recommended that you specify a descriptive name for each print queue, and define an associated Windows print driver. 7.) PRE-REQUISITE NETWARE DLLS (WINDOWS VERSION) I-Queue! Windows uses several of the NetWare Windows DLLs. Specifically, NWBIND.DLL, NWCONN.DLL, NWPRTQUE.DLL, NWSERVER.DLL and NWWRKSTN.DLL are required. A copy of these DLLs can be obtained from the NOVLIB forum on CompuServe. The current filename is WINUP6.ZIP in NOVLIB Library 5, but it is subject to change. 8.) INSTALLATION / CONFIGURATION COMPLETE - PROCEED TO LOADING I-QUEUE! LOADING I-QUEUE! (DOS) To load I-Queue!, simply type IQ. If you wish to take advantage of the additional capabilities of the OnHold utility to enable submitting print jobs that are automatically put on hold or delayed for later printing, then you should also load the ONHOLD.EXE program into memory. Optional command-line parameters for IQ.COM include: /NR tells I-Queue! to run non-resident. This is recommended when running under a task switching environment or Microsoft Windows. /NE tells I-Queue! not to use Expanded memory for swapping. /NX tells I-Queue! not to use Extended memory for swapping. /NU tells I-Queue! not to use 386-to-the-MAX or QEMM upper memory blocks to reduce conventional memory overhead. /D tells I-Queue! not to use Expanded or Extended memory for swapping, and to swap to disk. (I-Queue! will swap to disk by default if insufficient expanded or extended memory is available.) Note: I-Queue! creates a swap file in C:\ or the directory specified via the DOS TMP environmental variable. I-Queue! is NetWare aware, so multiple workstations can safely use the same TMP directory. /U unloads or de-installs I-Queue!. You can also change I-Queue!'s default hot-key of - via the command line with the following command line parameters: # Tells I-Queue! to use instead of in the hot- key. % Tells I-Queue! to use - instead of just in the hot-key. & Tells I-Queue! to use - instead of in the hot-key. ! Tells I-Queue! to use - instead of in the hot-key. A-Z Any alphabetic character from A to Z can be specified to work in conjunction with or in the hot- key. Fxx Any function key (F1-F12) can be specified to work in conjunction with or in the hot-key. Examples: IQ alone defaults to the - hot-key, or if I-Queue! has already been loaded, the hot-key is not changed. IQ X tells I-Queue! to use - as its hot-key. IQ #Z tells I-Queue! to use - as its hot-key. IQ F12 tells I-Queue! to use - as its hot-key. IQ %F5 tells I-Queue! to use -- as its hot-key. IQ &Z tells I-Queue! to use -- as its hot-key. IQ !F1 tells I-Queue! to use -- as its hot-key. POPPING UP I-QUEUE! (DOS) Press the I-Queue! hot-key defined when loading I-Queue!, and the I-Queue! menu will be displayed. For more information about the I-Queue! menu options, press for help. If you wish to pop-up I-Queue! from within a batch file without pressing the hot-key, execute the command IQPOPUP.COM after I-Queue! has been loaded. A couple of additional configuration options should be mentioned. If you want users to default to the Printcon Job Configuration selection window when popping up I-Queue!, set the following DOS environmental variable: SET IQQUICK=Y If you experience problems where your video display is corrupted when popping up or exiting I-Queue!, this is due to a bug in your VGA card's BIOS. Load the small memory-resident utility VGASAVE.COM provided in the IQUEUE.ZIP file before loading IQ.COM on any workstations that exhibit this behavior. SPECIAL I-QUEUE! SETTINGS (DOS) The IQQUICK environmental variable can be used to configure certain operations of I-Queue! DOS. Issue a SET IQQUICK= command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or system login script to configure the desired mode of execution. IQQUICK=q When I-Queue! is popped up, the user is immediately prompted for a print queue selection. After a queue is selected, if the user presses Enter, they exit I-Queue! If Escape is pressed they remain in I-Queue! IQQUICK=Q Similar to IQQUICK=q, except that the user always remains in I-Queue! until they exit. IQQUICK=j When I-Queue! is popped up, the user is immediately prompted for a printcon job selection. After a job is selected, if the user presses Enter, they exit I-Queue! If Escape is pressed they remain in I-Queue! IQQUICK=J Similar to IQQUICK=j, except that the user always remains in I-Queue! until they exit. LOADING I-QUEUE! (WINDOWS) I-Queue! Windows is separated into two executable programs: IQW.EXE is the program that allows you to modify your current "CAPTURE" parameters. IQMW.EXE is the program that allows you to manage print queues and jobs already in hhe print queue. (IQMW.EXE is automatically executed when you select the "Manage Queues" option in IQW.EXE.) You can use the File New option in Program Manager to define one or both programs to a program group (or the startup group.) For help within I-Queue! Windows, press F1 at any time. USING ONHOLD! OnHold is a small (<3k) TSR that changes the default action of CAPTURE/NPRINT. Normally print jobs are created without a hold on them allowing them to be printed immediately. OnHold causes print jobs to be created with a USER_HOLD, preventing them from being printed. This allows the user or an operator to schedule them to print at a later time, to move them to another queue, or change any parameters that may need changed. Command usage: OnHold - Installs OnHold (if already installed it enables OnHold) OnHold /D - Disables OnHold (leaving it resident) OnHold /U - Un-installs OnHold For average usage with I-Queue!, it is recommended that you load OnHold with the /D parameter (initially disabled), and then use I-Queue! to put a hold or delay on jobs. USING DEFCAP! The DefCap utility allows you to modify CAPTURE parameters from the command-line, but only modifies the specified parameters, leaving all others intact. For example, if you have a particular application that requires a higher timeout and no added form feed, you can issue the command DEFCAP TI=80 NFF. This maintains all otehr current CAPTURE parameters, and only changes TI=80 and NFF. DEFCAP supports the following parameters: DefCap V1.0 (c) Copyright 1991 by Infinite Technologies Usage: defcap [options] Options: /A Autoendcap /B enables Banner /B= enables Banner and set banner text to /C= number of Copies /FF FormFeed /L Local printer # /LPTx Local printer # /NA NoAutoendcap /NB No Banner /NFF No FormFeed /NOT Notify when printed /NN No Notify /NT No Tab expansion /SH SHow options /Tabs=<#> Tab size /Ti=<#> TImeout count (seconds) ORDERING I-QUEUE! ----------------- I-Queue! is currently available for $199, for unlimited use per file server. MHS GATEWAYS AND UTILITIES -------------------------- * MHS Scheduler - An MHS mail agent that provides greater flexibility in configuring when MHS will connect to a host. On a host-by-host basis, the MHS administrator can configure different frequencies of forced connections based on different times of the day, with separate weekday, weekend, and holiday scheduling possible. MHS gateways and internetwork connections can also be scheduled. The companion RunIT! utility simplifies the creation of batch file gateways...now you can run your tape backup system on your MHS server. * MHS Librarian! - An MHS Gateway that allows users to request information to be forwarded to them at another. Requests are made by placing a keyword in the "SUBJECT" field of the message that you address to the library. A list of files may be requested by sending a message with the keyword of INDEX. The system Admin can also configure MHS Librarian so that selected users can request files or directories other than those that appear in the index. Security is provided by a password program that generates unique daily passwords, a fixed password, or you can create your own password utility. * PageIT! - An MHS gateway connecting MHS-based electronic mail systems to full text alphanumeric pagers. Once configured, sending messages to an alphanumeric pager is as simple as sending a message from your favorite MHS application. * ForwardIT! - An MHS mail agent for automatically forwarding MHS based electronic mail messages. ForwardIT! can forward (or copy) messages addressed to an MHS address to an alternate address. ForwardIT! is most useful in the MHS remote e-mail environment. By remote, we refer to field workers or business travelers who operate ExpressIT! Remote, or other MHS compatible remote software, on a PC or laptop to access their electronic mail from a distant location. Examples could include a salesperson between sales calls, a business traveler in a hotel room, or work-at-home scenarios. Without ForwardIT!, when mail is sent to a recipient's office address, MHS does not allow for a remote user to dial into the network and retrieve mail waiting for their office address. Mail addressed to this office address can only be picked up at the office. In order to send a message to the user's MHS remote, the sender must assume responsibility for sending a copy of the message to the remote MHS address. With ForwardIT!, the user leaves a forwarding address at the office, and while they're out, all messages will be forwarded, or copied, to their forwarding address, giving users transparent access to their electronic mail while away from the office. This forwarding address can be any valid MHS address, including addresses via MHS gateways. * MhsQ! - An MHS gateway interface to NetWare print queues. Messages can be sent via MHS to a NetWare print queue. This capability can be useful for MHS remote sites and/or MHS enabled applications for generating printed output and/or reports. Sample applications for MhsQ! include generating work orders to a printer via MHS. * MHSNotify! - A TSR which runs on the MHS mail server only, and automatically notifies recipients of new electronic mail received from remote MHS sites, or across internetwork connections. An excellent alternative to MHSALERT for DaVinci e-mail users! (MHSNotify! is bundled with ExpressIT!)
