Purpose: This LOADER.DAT is intended for NetWare v2.1x, v2.2 (dedicated server versions), and fixes a conflict found between the NetWare OS and the IBM PS/2 Enhanced 80386 Memory Expansion Option 2MB and 4MB Kit. 2MB Kit - IBM p/n 34F3077 feature code 3077 4MB Kit - IBM p/n 34F3011 feature code 3011 * Both the 2 and 4MB versions of the memory card can also be identified by the same card sub assembly part number (located on the back of the card near the metal bracket). This IBM card sub assembly part number is as follows: p/n 49F5507-on adapters manufactured before July 1, 1990 p/n 87F9819-on adapters manufactured on or after July 1, 1990 This patch replaces the old patch IBMMEM.ZIP (910226) and fixes two potential issues: 1. The file server will be unable to boot from the hard drive if NetWare version 2.1x or 2.2 is installed before the IBM Memory Expansion Option is installed in the system. The IBM Memory Expansion Option software will overwrite the NetWare cold boot loader stored at Track 0 on a file server. 2. The file server will not recognize the IBM Expansion Option if the IBM Memory Expansion Option is installed before NetWare version 2.1x or 2.2 is installed in the system. NetWare version 2.1x or 2.2 will overwrite the IBM Memory Expansion Option software necessary to recognize the adapter. You may receive the statement "Error Loading User Device" and then the system may boot to BASIC. Installation: 1) Make a backup copy of the @FDDF.ADF file found on the IBM Enhanced 80386 Memory Option diskette. Copy the file that is supplied, @FDDF.NOV, to the @FDDF.ADF file on this Option diskette. Install the IBM Enhanced 80386 Memory Option. 2) Make a backup copy of the existing LOADER.DAT in the NETGEN directory (2.1x), or the SYSTEM-1 directory (2.2). Copy the new LOADER.DAT file that is supplied to the old LOADER.DAT. 3) a) In v2.1x, run "NETGEN --NC" to set new and custom options. At the NetWare Installation Menu screen, select the "Custom Installation" option. Select the "Miscellaneous Maintenance" and "Load the Operating System." Answer "Yes" to the "Fix System Drive Table" option. Escape to the NetWare Installation Menu screen, and select the "Install Networking Software on File Server" option. Respond "Yes" to "Install the Cold Boot Loader." b) In v2.2, for existing systems, select "Maintain Existing System" option. At the "Actions to be Performed" menu, do not select the ZTEST option. First select the "Load NetWare v2.2 OS" option. Then select "Replace Track Zero Information." This will install the new loader to track zero. Press F10 to exit. The message "Installed cold boot loader" should appear. 4) Reboot and bring up the server. ÿ
