***********************MSHRUNST.TXT *********************** This batch file will remove the LANtastic 7.0 Modem Sharing components from the machine on which it is run. NOTE: The enclosed MHSRUNST.BAT batch file is intended for use only in a LANtastic 7.0 for Windows 95 environment. It is intended to be run from within a DOS window on a system which has either the modem server or client components of the LANtastic 7.0 Modem Sharing installed. *********************************************************** Overview: This batch file works by removing the essential LANtastic 7.0 (Win95) modem sharing programs and changing the key pointers in Windows 95 to reflect the changes. Upon rebooting the computer, the modem sharing files will no longer be present on the machine and references to the programs will be removed from the Registry. The LANtastic interface program will still show options to Assign Modems and Share Modems, but the buttons will no longer function. If modem sharing functionality is later desired, it will be necessary to rerun the LANtastic 7.0 Setup program either from diskettes, CD-ROM, or an Install Services resource. Issues: This procedure is very straightforward on either a LANtastic 7.0 (Win95) modem sharing server or modem sharing client. It is only necessary for the batch file to update the Registry keys and remove the essential programs. The additional modem-sharing COM ports that were created during the installation are not removed by the batch file. Since each machine's hardware configuration may be unique, the additional COM ports need to be removed manually by the user, if desired. See step 5 below. Other issues may need to be considered. The batch file assumes that Windows 95 and LANtastic 7.0 (Win95) are installed on the C: drive. If this is not the case, you would need to manually modify the batch file for a non-standard installation of Windows 95 or LANtastic 7.0 (Win95). *********************************************************** To Use: *** IMPORTANT NOTE *** If the batch file is started from within an open DOS window, it is imperative that the DOS Window's Properties be configured to 'Suggest DOS mode as necessary' and that the selection is NOT made to 'Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows'. If this is not performed, the update will not take place and the modem sharing will not be properly deactivated. To check this potentiality, right-click on the MS-DOS prompt icon. Select 'Properties.' Click on the 'Program' Tab. Click on the 'Advanced' button. Ensure that there is a check- mark in the 'Suggest DOS mode as necessary' field. There should be no other check-marks in the other fields. Disregard this note if running the program from the Start/Run tabs on the desktop. 1. Be sure that the MSHRUNST.EXE file was run in a temporary directory to extract the MSHRUNST.BAT and this MSHRUNST.TXT file. Be sure to read this MSHRUNST.TXT file carefully before running the batch file. 2. Copy the MSHRUNST.BAT file to the 'Windows' directory of a LANtastic 7.0 (Win95) modem server or client computer from which you desire to remove the modem sharing function. 3. From the Windows 95 Desktop, click Start, then click Run, then select MSHRUNST.BAT in your 'Windows' directory and follow the batch file prompts. Alternatively, you can open a DOS Window , type MSHRUNST and follow the prompts. 4. After the batch file has run and Windows 95 has restarted, the MSHRUNST.BAT program may be removed, if desired. 5. After Windows 95 has restarted, the additional COM ports that were added by ModemShare may be removed manually, if desired, by clicking: Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Ports. Then select each modem sharing port for removal. If you have any difficulties, please contact Artisoft Technical Support at (520) 670-7000.
