Latest information and release notes v1.04 Release Notes for the EtherExpress(TM) PRO/10 PCI Adapter ========================================================= SETUP.EXE (runs in DOS) ----------------------- Use the new SETUP.EXE utility on the Intel Configuration and Driver disk to automatically install the DOS ODI driver, run diagnostics, get help with installation problems, and to view help files. Busmaster slots --------------- You MUST install the adapter in a busmaster slot. If the driver fails to load or diagnostics fail, try moving the adapter to a different slot. If you're not sure which slots are busmaster slots, see your computer's documentation. EMM386 ------ If you are using Microsoft's EMM386 memory manager, use version 4.49 or later. This version is included with DOS version 6.22. Windows* 95 Installation ------------------------ On some computers, the Windows 95 plug and play feature does not automatically recognize or properly configure the PRO/10 PCI adapter. Use manual installation to work around this problem. For complete instructions, see the MSWIN95.TXT file on the Intel Drivers and Configuration disk. PCI Interrupts -------------- Shared Interrupts The EtherExpress PRO/10 PCI adapter drivers support shared interrupts in most operating systems (except OS/2). If you think you have another PCI device that doesn't support shared interrupts (for example, a SCSI controller), contact its manufacturer for a shared interrupt driver. Or, try running your computer's CMOS Setup (BIOS configuration) program to assign a unique, non-shared interrupt to one of the PCI devices. Configuring Interrupts PCI computers automatically detect and configure PCI-compliant adapters while booting. The PRO/10 PCI adapter IRQ level and I/O address are automatically set by the BIOS each time you start your computer. If you need to manually change the IRQ level, refer to your computer user's guide for instructions. Intel's SETUP and PROSet programs cannot modify the IRQ setting. PCI BIOS Updates ---------------- Make sure you're using the latest BIOS version for your computer. See the help file section "Adapter installation and special configurations" for a list of phone numbers of the leading PCI computer manufacturers. Configuring Your PCI BIOS ------------------------- Some computers allow you to configure various BIOS parameters. If you have problems installing your adapter, run the BIOS setup program and, if possible, set these parameters: Interrupt type: level-triggered PCI slots: enable The slot where you installed the adapter must be busmaster- enabled. These should already be the default settings. Windows NT* 4.0 Support ----------------------- If you are using the Windows NT 4.0, select the "Intel EtherExpress PRO/10 PCI Adapter" when choosing an adapter from the list. (Do not select the PRO/10+ PCI Adapter.) For more Windows NT 4.0 driver information, check our automated support services. NetWare* 3.11 Servers --------------------- On NetWare 3.11 servers, the driver won't operate correctly unless you modify the server's STARTUP.NCF to include: SET MAXIMUM PHYSICAL RECEIVE PACKET SIZE = 1536 This specifies the size for preallocated server buffers. Use the value shown or larger. See the NetWare 3.11 installation instructions for more details. Compaq Prolinea* and Deskpro* XL computers ------------------------------------------ To work with the EtherExpress PRO/10 PCI LAN adapter, these two Compaq computers need updated BIOS software. You can download the necessary files from the Compaq website: http://www.compaq.com From the Compaq home page, navigate to the Downloadable Files page. On this page, select the file that corresponds to your Compaq computer model. Follow the instructions provided by Compaq. Updated drivers --------------- If updated drivers are available, you can download them from the Intel BBS or the World Wide Web. See the 'Using Intel's Automated Support Services' README file for details. New driver versions often include performance enhancements, increased compatibility, or bug fixes. It's a good idea to periodically check our BBS or Web page for updated drivers. MS LAN Manager* 2.x support --------------------------- For MS LAN Manager support, see the MSLANMAN.TXT readme file on the Configuration and Drivers disk. We have provided a batch file that creates the necessary disk structure and copies the correct drivers. The batch file, MSLANMAN.BAT, is located in the \NDIS directory. LANDesk Management Suite 2.0 ---------------------------- If you're using LANDesk Management Suite 2.0 and a Novell DOS or OS/2 ODI client driver, load RXMONSTK.COM (supplied by Novell) after loading LSL. Declaration of the Manufacturer or Importer ------------------------------------------- In addition to the FCC compliance statement in the Installation Guide, we certify that this product complies with EU directive 89/336/EEC, using the EMC standards EN55022 and EN50082-1.
