AST LAN ADAPTER RELEASE DISK Rel. 1.10 Copyright (c) AST Research, Inc. 1988-89 All Rights Reserved PC-NFS Directory This directory and the directories below it contain run-time drivers for using your AST local area network adapter within a Sun Microsystems PC-NFS environment. Please consult your AST LAN Adapter Installation Guide for instructions on configuring the adapter, and the documentation that came with the PC-NFS software for instructions on installing PC-NFS. Install your AST-Ethernet or AST-EtherNode adapter in your PC. During the configuration portion of the installation, make a note of the following information (it will be used during the installation of PC-NFS): 1. I/O Address - This is needed for the command line in the CONFIG.SYS file which is used to load the driver at boot time. 2. Node Address - This is needed by the System Administrator of the network you will be using. The CONFIG.SYS file on your boot disk drive needs to have the following line added to it to allow the AST-Ethernet or AST-EtherNode PC-NFS device driver to be loaded at boot-time: DEVICE = [d:][path]netdrvr.SYS /Pport Where: d = The disk drive specifier. path = The pathname of the directory which contains the device driver. netdrvr = The name of the network device driver. ENETNFS for the AST-Ethernet adapter ENODENFS for the AST-EtherNode adapter. port = The I/O address of the adapter. For Example: DEVICE = C:\NFS\ENETNFS.SYS /P380 The above line would cause the driver for the AST-Ethernet adapter (ENETNFS.SYS) to be loaded from the NFS subdirectory on drive C. The adapter is set to use port 380. The following subdirectories contain the network device drivers for the AST-Ethernet (ENETNFS.SYS) or AST-EtherNode (ENODENFS.SYS) adapters: Adapter AST Diskette Directory ------- ---------------------- AST-Ethernet \PC-NFS\ETHERNET AST-EtherNode \PC-NFS\ETHRNODE To add the appropriate network device driver line to your CONFIG.SYS file, first run the installation program included with the PC-NFS software. If you are installing PC-NFS version 3.0 or greater, the install driver menu contains an option marked "Other." If you choose this option, the program prompts you for the line to add to the CONFIG.SYS file. Previous versions of PC-NFS do not have the option which allows you to install drivers other than those included with the software. Therefore, to load the driver for your AST LAN adapter, you must perform the following steps: 1. Run the PC-NFS installation program. When you are prompted for a device driver, select one of the drivers included with the software. Continue with the installation process until it is complete. 2. Use a text editor, such as EDLIN, to modify the CONFIG.SYS file so that it specifies the device driver for the appropriate AST LAN adapter rather than the device driver chosen in step one above.
