U.S. Robotics Mobile Communications Customer Support ====================================================================== Title : WINNTDRV.TXT, Drivers For NT Date : 05 June 1997 Scope : All Of Our Ethernet Adapters and Ethernet Modems ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Purpose ------- Use this README as you set up your Ethernet Modem or Adapter in Windows NT, using WINNTDRV. This README has these sections: Files In WINNTDRV, Install Ethernet In NT 3.51, No Modem Installation In NT 3.51, Install Ethernet In Windows NT 4.0, Install Your Modem In NT 4.0. Files In WINNTDRV ----------------- Here are the contents of WINNTDRV.EXE, in addition to this README. MHZC9X.SYS MHZC9X.DLL OEMSETNT.INF MHZC9X.HLP MHZNCDET.DLL MDMMHZA.INF Install In Windows 3.51 ----------------------- Follow the guidelines in this section to install your Ethernet Modem or Adapter in Windows NT 3.51. There are a five parts of this process: Service Pack 5, Prepare To Use WINNTDRV, Use WINNTDRV, Configure Network & Protocols, Choose Domain or Workgroup. Note ---- We did not design our 14.4 Ethernet Modems to be compatible with NT 3.5x. Service Pack 5 -------------- If you are installing an Ethernet Modem or Adapter in Windows NT 3.51 then our Applications Engineers recommend that you should install Microsoft's NT 3.51 Service Pack 5. Prepare To Use WINNTDRV ----------------------- 1. Log into NT, select Control Panel from the Main group and double-click on Network. 2. You will be asked if you want to install the network now? Click Yes. 3. Type the path for your Windows NT 3.51 diskettes or CD and click Enter. 4. The network Adapter Dialog box will appear. Click on Do Not Detect:Continue. 5. From the Add Adapter dialog box, select Other: Requires disk from manufacturer which is at the bottom of the drop-down list box; click Continue. Use WINNTDRV ------------ 1. Insert the disk that you made of WINNTDRV.EXE into your disk drive. 2. Change the path to a:\ and click OK. 3. Highlight your PC Card and click OK. 4. PC Card Setup will appear. Ensure that the values listed are correct for your system by consulting with your system's documentation or your network system administrator. 5. Use the drop-down list boxes to select new values. Click Continue. Configure Network & Protocols ----------------------------- 1. Select the services and protocols you require for your network in Windows NT Setup. These settings are available in your NT manuals or from your network administrator. 2. Click Continue and insert your NT installation diskettes or your CD into the drive as needed. Network Settings will appear. 3. Networks and Workgroups buttons are grayed out during this process. After you restart your system, you will be able to access these two areas. You cannot configure the card settings in Network Settings until you restart. Click OK. Do not restart your system at this point. 4. A network setup warning will appear saying network unable to start. Click OK. 5. You will be asked if you want to reconfigure your Ethernet Modem. Click No. Choose Your Domain or Your Workgroup ------------------------------------ 1. After you have followed the last step of the previous section, you will see Domain/Workgroup Settings. Enter these values and click OK. These values are available from your network administrator. 2. When the Restart screen appears, click Restart. No Modem Installation In NT 3.51 -------------------------------- If you have an Ethernet Modem then there are no further installation steps. There are no seperate modem drivers to set up. Install In Windows NT 4.0 ------------------------- Follow these guidelines as you install your Ethernet Modem or Adapter in Windows NT 4.0. There are four parts to this process: * Network Setup Wizard, * Standard Installation, * New Installation, * and Install Your Modem. Network Setup Wizard -------------------- 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 with your Ethernet Modem or Terminal Adapter inserted in the PC Card Slot that you will be using. 2. After logging into NT 4.0, click Start:Settings:Control Panel and then double-click Network. 3. Unless your system is "out of the box" new, go to the next section of this README. If you have never had any other services, protocols or adapters before then skip the next section. Standard Installation --------------------- These are the standard steps that you will follow as you install your PC Card in a system that's already up and running. In this case, you have already installed any services, protocols or adapters. 1. Select the Adapters tab. 2. Click Add:Have Disk. 3. Insert the disk that you made of WINNTDRV and assure that the path that NT is pointed to is a:\. Click OK. 4. Pick your Ethernet Modem or Ethernet Adapter from the list that is presented and click OK. Here are two exceptions: * If your PC Card is EM1144T, CCEM1144 or XJEM1144 then choose our XJEM3288. * If your PC Card is an XJ10BT/C then choose CC10BT/2. 5. A PC Card Setup screen will appear. Indicate the Interupt Request (IRQ), Input/Output(I/O) Port,Communications (COM) Port, Memory Range (or window) and Media Type based on information listed in NT Diagnostics or in your system documentation. 6. Select Services and Protocols tabs to configure networks based on the information your network administrator gave you. 7. Click Close and NT 4.0 will bind protocols and services to your adapter. It may prompt you for your NT 4.0 CD or diskette. 8. Remove the diskette containing WINNTDRV and click Yes to Restart your system. Do this with the PC Card inserted. New Installation ---------------- Follow these steps if you have never installed any services, protocols or adapters before. 1. You will be asked if you want to "install the network now?" Click Yes. 2. Respond to the prompts that the NT 4.0 Network Setup Wizard will present and then click Next. 3. When you are prompted for Network Adapters, click Select From List:Have Disk. 4. Insert the disk that you made of WINNTDRV and assure that the path that NT is pointed to is a:\. Click OK. 5. Pick your Ethernet Modem or Ethernet Adapter from the list that is presented and click OK. Here are two exceptions: * If your PC Card is EM1144T, CCEM1144 or XJEM1144 then choose our XJEM3288. * If your PC Card is an XJ10BT/C then choose CC10BT/2. 6. Select Next and then your network protocols and services. * If you are connecting to Novell Netware then pick Client Service For Netware. It is not automatically loaded. 7. Click Next and enter the path to Windows NT 4.0. Press Continue. 8. A PC Card Setup screen will appear. Indicate the Interupt Request (IRQ), Input/Output(I/O) Port, Communications (COM) Port, Memory Range (or window) and Media Type based on information listed in NT Diagnostics or in your system documentation. 9. Click Continue and NT 4.0 will begin the process to install individual components. 10. Respond to the prompts with information about your network's protocols and services. 11. Remove the diskette containing WINNTDRV and click Yes to restart your system. Install Your Modem ------------------ 1. After logging into NT, select Control Panel and double click Modems. The install new modem wizard will appear. 2. Insert the diskette containing WINNTDRV and click Next. The wizard will detect your modem on an available COM Port. Note ---- NT 4.0 will automatically select your COM Port. If you would like to change the COM Port then contact your system manufacturer for help with your Basic Input Output System (BIOS) Configuration. 3. Select Change:Have Disk and type a:\. 4. Select your PC Card from the list that NT 4.0 will present. 5.
