3Com (R) Corporation EtherDisk (R) Diskette for The 3C5X9 EtherLink III NIC Family EtherDisk 6.0 for the 3C509B Etherlink III ISA NIC. General Changes EtherDisk 6.0 introduces the 3Com Installation and Diagnostic Wizard! This EtherDisk features a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) that guides the user through a wizard-style installation. This new Installation and Diagnostics Wizard is the major focus of this Etherdisk release. No major changes or enhancements have been included in this driver release other than the introduction of the new Installation and Diagnostics Wizard. EtherDisk #1 contains all the files necessary to install the EtherLink III in Windows 95 or Windows NT. This includes a Windows based GUI installer and a post installation configuration and diagnostic tool, accessible from a system tray icon. EtherDisk #2 contains the software that was on EtherDisk 5.1, except for Windows 95 and Windows NT. This includes installation for NetWare versions 3.X and 4.X, various DOS based network operating systems, IBM OS/2, and the packet driver. For more information refer to \help\readme.txt on Disk 2. Installation Two new Windows 95 installation options have been added to this release, Express and Custom Installation. Express Installation is recommended when the three following conditions exist. 1. Plug and Play is enabled on the NIC, 2. Microsoft TCP/IP protocol is required in your environment 3. A DHCP server is used in your network. If one or more of these conditions are not met use the Custom Installation. See the User Guide for Custom Installation instructions. (Consult your PC documentation to determine whether your PC supports Plug and Play) It is strongly recommended that you run the Preinstal program before the driver installation to determine possible resource and driver conflict which may prevent the successful installation of the new driver. For more information refer to \help\w95ndis3.txt on Disk 2. Documentation A revised User Guide and Quick Guide are also available in PDF format and can be downloaded from the 3Com WEB site. 3Com strongly recommends that you download the documentation when using this driver release as the installation procedures have changed significantly from previous Etherdisk versions. For additional information on installation and other changes please refer to the files in the \help directory on Disk 2.
