  (1). Notes on Setup for DOS and Windows

  **********************
  * PATH Modifications *
  **********************

  If you have an older version of the Genius mouse driver or other mouse
  driver in your system, delete it from your system and use a text editor
  to remove the old directory from the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  file.

  ************************
  * CONFIG Modifications *
  ************************

  If you have an older version of the Genius mouse driver - GMOUSE.SYS -
  in your CONFIG.SYS file, the HiPoint Setup program will eliminate it
  and save the original CONFIG.SYS file as CONFIG.BAK.

  ************************************
  * Operation from Floppy Disk Drive *
  ************************************

  If you don't have a hard disk, you can load the DOS HiPoint mouse driver
  and DOS HiPoint Control Panel from the Floppy Disk Drive into the memory
  and operate from there. A minimum of 256K is necessary.

  *************************************
  * Using COM3 or COM4 in your system *
  *************************************

  If you connect your mouse on COM3 or COM4, there may be some problems
  while running under Windows. The Windows HiPoint driver doesn't fully
  support these 2 communication ports, so for some PCs you are not able
  to use HiPoint in Windows under enhanced mode. The DOS driver runs fine
  through COM3 or COM4.

  We therefore suggest connecting the mouse through COM1 or COM2 when using
  HiPoint.

  (2). Modifying POINT.INI

       The POINT.INI file contains the program information and the default
  settings of the Genius HiPoint driver program. Any changes to it will affect
  the operation of your mouse. It is recommended that only advanced users
  make changes directly to this file. Before making any changes to the file,
  always first save it as a backup file in case of mistakes, i.e. POINT.BAK.

  *************************
  * Acceleration Profiles *
  *************************

  The acceleration parameters determine the relative speed of cursor movement
  for set distances of ball movement within a standard amount of time. On the
  existing four acceleration profiles, speed is slowed for shorter distances
  and increased for longer distances. Thus, when operating your HiPoint, you
  get more precision in short distances, but are still able to move the cursor
  across the whole acreen with a quick, short turn.

  Acceleration curves work by establishing multipliers for different distances
  covered in a single unit of time. The multiplier adjusts the speed set under
  the Sensitivity setting. Thus the multiplier may be 0.5 for a short distance
  to slow the movement speed by one-half, but for a long distance the
  multiplier may be 2.0 thus doubling the movement speed. Here is a sample
  profile.

  [AccelerationProfile2]
  Label=Cruising
  Movement=1    26    42     61    80
  Factor=1.00  1.25  1.50   1.75  1.50

  You may make changes directly to the existing four acceleration curves. In
  each set of figures the upper line contains the number of "mickeys", which
  for input devices is unit of distance per unit of time. The number of mickeys
  cannot exceed 127. Below each mickey designation is the multiplier. Be sure
  to leave at least one space between each number. Each line must have less
  than 80 characters. Do not use tabs, use the space key.

  ***************
  * Orientation *
  ***************

  If you wish to directly input the angle of operation for HiPoint, key
  in a figure from 0 to 359 next to "RotationAngle=". 0ø is "up" perpendicular
  to the right edge of HiPoint. This would feel most natural for right-
  handed users holding HiPoint in the conventional way. Degrees are counted
  counter-clockwise. 270ø would be a natural setting for left-handed users.

  (3). Miscellaneous Items

  ******************************
  * Loading POINT.INI settings *
  ******************************

  The settings in the POINT.INI file are read by both the DOS and Windows
  HiPoint drivers only when the drivers are loaded. Similarly, the Windows
  HiPoint Control Panel reads the settings in POINT.INI only when it is
  started. The DOS HiPoint utilities Orientation and Control Panel get
  their initial settings from those resident in HiPoint-driver memory.

  Saving changes permanently from any of the HiPoint utilities updates both
  the settings in driver memory and the settings in the POINT.INI file.
  However, if you edit the POINT.INI file manually, your new settings
  will not be recognized by either mouse driver until it is reloaded.

  To make your changes to POINT.INI settings take effect in DOS:

       1. Save the edited POINT.INI file.
       2. Restart your computer.
          Or,
          Remove the HiPoint driver from memory by typing POINT U;
          then reload the HiPoint driver by typing POINT.

  To make your changes to POINT.INI settings take effect in Windows:

       1. Save the edited POINT.INI file.
       2. Exit Windows.
       3. Restart Windows.
