* * * * * * UPDATED FEATURES GENIUS DRIVER V9.06 * * * * * * The following mouse parameters have been added to the GMOUSE driver which allow you to configure the mouse or trackball to fit your requirements. A. Dynamic Resolution ( *m ) ------------------------- With this parameter, an exciting new concept in Mouse control has been developed. A precise location on the screen can be selected with greater ease and speed. Movement of the cursor across the screen is based on the tra- vel count and speed of the movement of the mouse. It is not only measured the distance traveled by the mouse, but also by checking how quick the mouse is moved. The faster the movement of the mouse allows the cursor to move farther across the screen. This action causes less hand movement. The resolution of the input device (mouse or trackball) can be increased up to 1400 dots per inch depending on the device you are using. You can select the desired resolution according to the requirements of the software program installed. To select the resolution, type the command: A >GMOUSE *m (Where m = 1 to 4, if omitted, default is 2) B. Reduce Resolution ( /d ) ------------------------ The resolution of the input device (mouse or trackball) can also be reduced if you require a lower resolution than the one that is currently being used. To reduce the resolution, enter the following command: A >GMOUSE /d (Where d = 2 to 4, and the number entered divides the current resolution by this amount). C. Communication Port ( n ) ------------------------ There are four general purpose communication ports generally used on your personal computer. The relative address and IRQ no. are listed in the table below: -------+----------+------------------+---------- n | COM no. | Address in HEX. | IRQ no. -------+----------+------------------+---------- 1 | COM 1 | 3F8 | IRQ 4 2 | COM 2 | 2F8 | IRQ 3 3 | COM 3 | 3E8 | IRQ 4 4 | COM 4 | 2E8 | IRQ 3 -------+----------+------------------+---------- The Genius input device (mouse or trackball) can be set to any one of the four communication ports, (COM1 to COM4). The command format is: A >GMOUSE n (Where n = 1 to 4). For example, if you install the mouse at COM1 (default setting), enter the following: A >GMOUSE 1 or A >GMOUSE And if you want to install the mouse at COM4, enter the following: A >GMOUSE 4 Follow the above examples if your communication port is different than the above examples. D. I/O Port Address & IRQ no. ( -a,i ) ----------------------------------- This new feature is provided for experienced users. If you're unfamiliar with I/O ports and IRQ channels, don't attempt to change these because any mistakes could prevent you from using your computer. You change the addresses when the I/O port for the Genius input device (mouse or trackball) is different from the default settings as described in the table above. To change the port address and IRQ channel, follow the steps listed below to select hardware interrupt (IRQ no., range from 2 to 5, the preset IRQ no. for user as- signable port address is 5) and the I/O port address to install the mouse driver. 1). To select the I/O port address and IRQ no., enter: A >GMOUSE -3E0,2 (Setup driver, select 3E0H port address and IRQ no. 2) 2). To select the I/O port address and preset IRQ no.5, enter: A >GMOUSE -260 (Setup driver, select 260H port address and preset IRQ no. 5) WARNING: If the wrong setting is selected or not set properly, you may cause system error! E. Switch Ortho line Function ( +s ) ---------------------------------- The Ortho line Function is provided as an aid to the user to draw straight horizontal or vertical lines. You can set this function to be ON or OFF, by setting the parameter to "+1 or +0". The default for this function is OFF. Once you have set the Ortho line function "ON", you press the left and right button of the input device (mouse or trackball) at the same time to start the function. Use the same method to turn the function "OFF" when you don't want to use it. To activate the Ortho line Function, type the command: A >GMOUSE +1 (Switches the Ortho Line Function ON) A >GMOUSE +0 (Switches the Ortho Line Function OFF) F. Multiple Parameters ------------------ It is also possible to select the resolution and the commun- ication port at the same time. The sequence of selecting the multiple parameter is: 1). Resolution (*m or /d) 2). Ortho line Function (+s) 3). Communication port (n or -a,i) Where m is from 1 to 4, /d is from 2 to 4, n is from 1 to 4, -a is the port address, and i is the IRQ no. Ex: A >GMOUSE *4+1-3E8,4 This case allows for faster movement of the cursor (*4) on the screen and the mouse port address is 3E8H which IRQ4 is ass- igned. We also activated the Ortho line Function (+1). Ex: A >GMOUSE *3-279 The I/O address is 279H and this command uses the default IRQ no. 5. Ex: A >GMOUSE +1-260 The Ortho line function is activated and we set the I/O port address to 260H also uses the default IRQ no. 5. Ex: A >GMOUSE /22 This command connects your mouse to communication port COM2 and the movement of the cursor becomes slower (cursor movement is reduced by 1/2 of the current amount). Ex: A >GMOUSE 4 This command connects your mouse to communication port COM4 and uses the address and IRQ no. associated with COM 4 (refer to the table in section C). G. How to use GMOUSE.SYS file -------------------------- The Genius mouse driver (also used for the trackball) comes with two different file formats; one in the command format named GMOUSE.COM, and the other in DOS system format named GMOUSE.SYS. These two file functions are exactly the same. The only difference is the GMOUSE.COM file can be executed at the DOS prompt and the GMOUSE.SYS must be placed in your system's CONFIG.SYS file. You can used either file depending on your preference whether or not you want the mouse driver to be installed in your CONFIG.SYS. To use the GMOUSE.SYS file, insert the line "DEVICE = GMOUSE.SYS +1-3E8,2" in the CONFIG.SYS file. Note: The GMOUSE.SYS and CONFIG.SYS files must be at the root directory of the disk which is used to start DOS. The mn parameters were added to choose the GMOUSE driver's resolution and communication port. These were described in the sections A,B,C, and F. Section D is for experienced users and section D described the Ortho line function. H. The Genius Driver V9.06 provides a bus mouse interface which is suitable for Microsoft Bus Mouse, Microsoft InPort Mouse, and Genius Bus Mouse Versions: GM-7, GM-7A, and GM-7D. Important: This README.DOC takes precedence over the user's manual that accompanies your input device (mouse or trackball). The Genius driver V9.06 is the latest driver currently available. The driver is continually updated and if you're trying to run a new software program and having problems using the input device, please contact the place of purchase for assistance.
