Installing Trantor drivers for Windows NT September, 1992 This NT driver release has been tested with the Developer's Release Disc. It should also work with later releases of Windows NT. T13B.SYS Driver for the Trantor T130 SCSI adapter T128.SYS Driver for the Trantor T128 and T228 SCSI adapters T348.SYS Driver for the Trantor T348 MiniSCSI Plus adapter Currently, these are the only Trantor SCSI host adapters that are supported under Windows NT. There are no plans to support the older T100 adapter or the T338 MiniSCSI at this time. NOTE: The Trantor driver interfaces the Trantor SCSI adapter to the NT system, it does NOT support SCSI devices directly! Support for SCSI devices is supplied by Microsoft as part of Windows NT. Installation as a Secondary adapter With this driver release it is assumed that you will be using the Trantor SCSI adapter as a secondary adapter in your system. In other words, the hard drive you boot from will not be connected to a Trantor SCSI card. If you are installing a T128/T228 or a T130 SCSI adapter, make sure you have it jumpered for INTERRUPT 5 (IRQ 5) for the installation... this is the WINNT software driver default. You can also select IRQ 7 or 3 after installation if you like. The T348 MiniSCSI Plus reserves IRQ 15 by default. Sample INI files for different IRQ settings are on this distribution disk. They must be installed in a "DEVICE" subdirectory under \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ as explained in the NT documentation if you want to change the default IRQ for the card. Install the NT files manually as described in the NT documentation under Section 2.2 Alternate Installation - DOS2NT. Copy your Trantor NT driver into the \WINNT\SYSTEM\DRIVERS directory. Once the system is running, run the REGEDIT program and add the appropriate Trantor Txxx.SYS file to the Registry. The name in the Registry MUST match the name of the driver. Restart your system with the Trantor SCSI adapter installed and the SCSI device connected. Hard Disk Drives Once the driver is installed in the Registry, and you have restarted your system, you will be able to run Disk Manager and get an icon for the SCSI drive. You can format it for NT using the FORMAT command with the /FS (File System) option you desire. CD-ROM Drives The Trantor driver supports the Trantor SCSI adapter only. Drivers for CD-ROM are supplied by Microsoft. Only the CD-ROM drives supported by Microsoft will be accessable, even using the Trantor driver. Windows NT should be able to recognize any supported CD-ROM drive when the system is restarted. Troubleshooting If you are having trouble recognizing a SCSI device, make sure that you can recognize that same device on the same computer running MS-DOS. If you don't recognize it under DOS, you won't recognize it under NT either. If all else fails, you can post a message on the WINNT Forum on Compuserve (someone from Trantor will check there regularly), or leave a message on the Trantor BBS at 510-656-5159. Or you can FAX a question to Trantor's technical support department at 510-770-9910.
