     |  EIDE2300PLUS ATAPI Driver for Windows NT 3.5x |

    This driver supports IDE hard disks and ATAPI CD-ROMs, and it 
    can be used under Windows NT version 3.5 or later. You need this
    driver only if you want to run in TURBO mode under Windows NT.
   

     ********* Installing the Driver *********

       NOTE: Make sure that the file DISK1.NT is on the root of 
       the floppy diskette from which you are installing the 
       PTIVGAPI.SYS driver.

     1. In "Program Manager," double click on "Windows NT Setup" in
        "Main" group.

     2. In "Windows NT Setup", select "Options",
        next choose "/Add/Remove SCSI Adapters..."

     3. In "SCSI Adapter Setup", click on "Add...".

     4. In "Select SCSI Adapter Option", select
        "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)" in the
        "Adapter:" box.

     5. An "Insert Diskette" box will appear.
        Insert the driver diskette into Drive A: and type the path 
        where the PTIVGAPI.SYS and OEMSETUP.INF files are located on 
        the diskette into dialogue box.

     6. A "Select OEM Option" box will appear.
        Select "Promise Technology Inc. EIDE2300PLUS Controller" and 
        click on "OK".

     7. A "Select SCSI Adapter Option" will appear.
        Click on "Install".

     8. After successful installation, the "SCSI Adapter Setup" box will
        show that "Promise Technology Inc. EIDE2300PLUS Controller"
        has been installed.

     9. Reboot your computer.



     ******** Changing Operating Mode *******

     If you want to change the operating mode, please type the following
     command in "DOS Prompt" session:

        PTIVGAPI

     The following message will be shown on the screen to ask you which mode
     will be set:

        Will the controller be in TURBO or FAST mode
        (T/F)? (default=T)

     Please answer 'T' or 'F' for your setup.

     After the changes have been made, please do a hard reboot of the 
     system.


     ******** Removing the Driver *********


     1. In "Program Manager," double click on "Windows NT Setup" in
        "Main" group.

     2. In "Windows NT Setup", select "Options",
        next choose "/Add/Remove SCSI Adapters..."

     3. In "SCSI Adapter Setup",
        select "Promise Technology Inc. EIDE2300PLUS Controller" and
        click on "Remove".

     4. After successfully removing the driver, the "SCSI Adapter Setup" 
        box will show that "Promise Technology Inc. EIDE2300PLUS 
        Controller" has been removed.



******* Installing the Driver During Installing Windows NT 3.5x *******
     
     1. Copy disk1.nt and all files from this subdirectory, including 
	txtsetup.oem, oemsetup.inf, ptivgapi.sys and ptivgapi.exe
        to a blank formatted diskette in drive A:\.

     2.  Boot the computer with the Boot Floppy included with Windows NT.

     3.  If booting to DOS and then installing from a CD-ROM, don't run 
         WINNT /b. You can only run WINNT.

     4.  Press ENTER to install Windows NT.

     5.  Select Custom Setup.  Please read your Windows NT manual on Custom 
         Setup.

     6.  Select Skip hardware detect.

     7.  After Windows NT scans for SCSI adapters, press "S" to add an 
         adapter.

     8.  Select "Other (requires disk provided by hardware manufacturer)".

     9.  Insert the floppy disk that was made in step 1 into drive A: and 
         press ENTER.

    10.  Follow the normal Custom Setup installation procedure.

    11.  After completing the Windows NT 3.5x installation, 
         copy the file PITVGAPI.EXE to $NT_ROOT\System32.
