Windows95 Installation of Miniport Drivers ========================================== for 2278XX ========== 1. Copy the DTC Windows 95 Driver(s) into a source location. Copy the DTCEIDE.MPD Miniport driver and the DTCEIDE.INF database information file into a diskette OR a directory on your hard drive. e.g. C:\> md DTCWIN95 C:\> copy DTCEIDE.MPD c:\DTCWIN95 C:\> copy DTCEIDE.INF c:\DTCWIN95 2. Install the DTC Windows 95 Driver(s). a. Go the CONTROL PANEL of Windows95. b. Click on the ADD NEW HARDWARE Icon. c. Click on Next. d. Windows95 will now prompt you whether you want the Wizard to search for new hardware. Select NO, then click Next. e. The HARDWARE TYPES window will now be displayed. Select HARD DISK CONTROLLER and then click Next. f. The next window displays a list of Hard disk controllers. Click on the HAVE DISK button. g. The Install From Disk window will now appear. Enter the location of the DTC Windows 95 drivers as described in Step 1, above, then click OK. g. The next window displays the description of the DTC Windows 95 Miniport Driver. Click NEXT to continue. h. If a window indicating a possible conflict exists then take note of this conflict, continue with the installation of the drivers, and then troubleshoot with Step 3. i. If a window indicates that a file could not be found or copied, then make sure that the source path is correct and click the OK button. j. Click FINISH to terminate the installation. 3. Troubleshooting possible conflicts. a. From the Control Panel, select the SYSTEM icon. b. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab. c. Make sure that the VIEW DEVICES BY TYPE button is selected. d. Click on the + button to the right of the HARD DISK CONTROLLER icon OR double click on the HARD DISK CONTROLLER icon itself. A list of all Hard disk controller drivers is now displayed. f. Select a DTC driver and click on the PROPERTIES button. g. Click on the RESOURCES tab to view the settings - I/O address and IRQ - of the driver. The DTC driver has 2 possible resource settings: Configuration 0: 1st Port Driver I/O Address Range 1F0-1F7 IRQ 14 Configuration 1: 2nd Port Driver I/O Address Range 170-177 IRQ 15 h. If the configuration is not set properly, then click the down pointing arrow of the configuration window and select the appropriate one. Be sure that no new conflicts arise by checking the CONFLICTING DEVICE LIST window. Repeat this step if other conflicts arise. i. Once all conflicts are resolved, click the OK button and reboot the system. 4. Enabling the 2nd port. a. To enable the second port, install the driver again - see Step 2. Be sure to choose Configuration 1. Note: You do not need to add /2 to enable the second port in Windows - the miniport driver will automatically enable the second port. 5. Disable the DOS and WINDOWS 3.XX drivers. a. At this point, the DOS driver (DOSEIDE.SYS) in the config.sys and the WINDOWS 3.XX (WINEIDE.386) in the SYSTEM.INI could be remarked out. Any additional drivers, such as the IDE CD ROM driver and the MSCDEX.EXE driver could also be remarked out at this time.
