BusLogic Device Driver Installation for NeXTSTEP 3.2 ==================================================== Files ----- The following files are included in this package: next32dd.Z - Compressed 'dd' image of BusLogic Driver diskette (3.5" format) readme.txt - This readme file Unpacking Procedure ------------------- 1. On a Unix system, decompress "next32dd.Z" as follows: # uncompress next32dd.Z 2. The resulting file, "next32dd" is a 'dd' image of the BusLogic driver diskette (3.5" format). Insert a blank 3.5" format diskette in the floppy drive, and type: # dd if=next32dd of=/dev/rfd0b bs=9k (on NextStep) or # dd if=next32dd of=/dev/rfd0 bs=9k (on other Unix systems) The BusLogic Device Driver diskette is now created. Installation Procedure ---------------------- 1. Configure BusLogic SCSI Host Adapter I/O port address to 0x334. 2. Boot system from the NeXTSTEP 3.2 Installation diskette. 3. The boot procedure will load the device drivers from the Installation diskette and display the following: The following SCSI adapter and hard disk controller device drivers are available while installing NEXTSTEP: ... If you have a different kind of SCSI adapter or hard disk controller, insert the floppy disk that contains the device driver for your device. Type 1 to load a device driver from the disk in the floppy disk drive. Type 2 to continue without loading additional device drivers. ---> Insert the BusLogic Device Driver diskette and select option 1. 4. After reading the diskette for a few seconds, the following is displayed: The floppy disk in the drive contains the following SCSI adapter and hard disk controller device drivers: 1. BusLogic SCSI Adapter Type the number for the device driver you want to install. Type 2 to continue without installing a device driver from this disk. ---> Select 1 to load the BusLogic device driver. 5. The screen displays a series of progress messages. Press Return when "The driver was loaded successfully" message is displayed. 6. The SCSI adapter device driver option prompt from step 3 redisplays with the BusLogic SCSI Adapter entry. Select option 2 to continue without loading additional device driver. 7. Continue installation until you are asked to eject the floppy to reboot from the hard disk. At this point, re-insert the Installation diskette instead and reboot using this diskette. 8. At the boot prompt, type the following: boot: mach_kernel -s "Boot Drivers=PS2Keyboard" 9. Repeat steps 3-6 and continue installation until the shell prompt, "#", is displayed. 10. With the BusLogic Device Driver diskette still in the floppy drive, type the following: # /usr/etc/driverLoader D=Floppy # mount -n /dev/sd0a /disk # mount -n /dev/fd0a /floppy # cp -r /floppy/usr/Devices/BusLogic.config /disk/usr/Devices # umount /floppy Eject the diskette from the floppy drive and type: # reboot Reboot from the hard disk and continue installation according to the Installation Manual.
