Stingray 128/3D Windows 95 Drivers and Tools Version 1.17.2059 Installation Guide October 8th, 1997 CONTENTS Introduction If You're Updating From An Earlier Release Running The SETUP Program What's New In This Release Known Limitations How To Contact Hercules Introduction ============ This guide contains the information you need to install our Windows 95 drivers and tools for your Hercules product. If You're Updating From An Earlier Release ========================================== If you already have an earlier version of our Power Drive<tm> Windows 95 driver installed, you should run the UnInstall program located in the Hercules PowerTools program group before continuing. Doing this removes the previous release of software from your hard drive, as well as all old references to the drivers and utilities in your configuration files. The UnInstall program will also change your display driver back to the standard VGA driver. After running the UnInstall program, restart your computer. You will be asked for the first diskette of the new Hercules software. Windows 95 will install the new driver. When asked to restart the computer, select "No". You will now be ready to install this new software for the Windows 95 desktop. Running the SETUP Program ========================= If you received this software release on diskettes, you'll find the SETUP.EXE program on Disk 1 of our Windows 95 Driver and Utilities diskettes -- the very same diskette that contains this README.TXT file. If you've downloaded our software from one of our online services, you'll find the SETUP.EXE in the archive -- it will be in the same directory as is this README.TXT file. To install the driver and utilities, just run our SETUP.EXE program. If you run it from the task bar, make sure you type the entire path to the directory that contains SETUP.EXE. Otherwise, you might accidentally launch somebody else's setup program. SETUP.EXE can install the Power Drive driver, our new Touch 95<tm> and Hercules Entertainment Center<tm> utilities, or both. To automatically install everything, choose the "Typical" option when using Setup's "wizard" installation interface. There's nothing more to do! What's New In This Release ========================== Release 1.17.2059 of this software contains the following improvements: 1. Duplicate mouse cursors on Windows 95 desktop has been corrected. 2. Cursor corruption in Warlords III, Master of Orion II, and other DirectX games has been fixed. 3. Screen corruption in PaintShop Pro, Autocad for Windows, Solitaire, and others has been fixed. 4. Performance of GLQuake has been enhanced with the addition of version 2.43 of the Glide runtime libraries, which are included in this software release. Note that you must have the new GLQuake executable and new OpenGL mini-library to take advantage of this improvement. These will be released on 3Dfx's web site (http://www.3dfx.com/) on or after October 9, 1997. Known Limitations ================= - Dungeon Keeper crashes after 15-20 minutes of play. The screen becomes corrupt, and keyboard and mouse input is lost. A hard reset is required to regain control. Alt-Tab and Ctrl-Alt-Delete does not work. Workaround: install and run the DOS version of Dungeon Keeper. - Text is corrupted in the tutorial of the Internet game "SubSpace". Workaround: Select "Software Emulation" in the Options screen. - Textures don't appear correctly when using Direct3D preview in Caligari TrueSpace 3. - "PCI Bus Retries": When playing wave audio, scrolling in a graphic intensive application causes sound drop-outs or stuttering. Also causes serial buffer overruns if serial communication is occuring at the same time. While this issue has not be addressed completely, the problem can be minimized in this software release by following this procedure: Go to the Control Panel and open Display Properties. Click on the Info tab, and click the Performance button. Check "Allow PCI Retries", click OK, and click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. - Video Gamma and Chroma Control tabs have been removed from Display Properties. Use the Desktop/Glide Control on the taskbar instead. Hercules is on an aggressive schedule to provide solutions to known limitations whenever possible. If you encounter a problem, please contact us to ensure that you are using the latest software.
