Viper PCI OS/2 2.1 Driver Release Notes Version 1.2
Driver Version 1.01


Assumptions:
These drivers assume that normal VGA video drivers are currently installed.  
Please make sure that the VGA video drivers are installed for the primary 
video adapter.

Before selecting a driver, make sure that your monitor can support the refresh
rate of the driver you want to use.  If you select a refresh rate that your 
monitor does not support, you can damage the monitor.  Diamond Computer
Systems is not responsible for any damage incurred by incorrect selection of
refresh rates.

Installation: 
Before installing the drivers, copy the following files to a backup directory 
or floppy, as they will be modified:

\CONFIG.SYS
\OS2\OS2.INI
\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM.INI

To install the drivers:
1.  Insert the Viper OS/2 2.1 driver disk into a diskette drive.
2.  Select an OS/2 Windows or OS/2 Full Screen session from the Command 
    Prompts folder.
3.  Type A: or B: (depending on where the Viper OS/2 driver disk is located) 
    and press Enter.
4.  Type DSPINSTL and hit Enter.
5.  Click on the OK button on the Help not Available dialog box.
6.  Select the Primary Display check-box, then click OK.
7.  Select the desired resolution, color depth, and refresh rate combination 
    from the list-box, then click OK.
8.  Type in the correct path to the driver disk, then click OK.
9.  The file will be copied to the appropriate directories, and the necessary 
    configuration files will be modified.
10. When installation is complete, select Cancel.
11. You will then see a dialog box indicating that changes have been made 
    to your system configuration.  Click on OK.
12. Exit the OS/2 Windows or OS/2 Full Screen command prompt by typing EXIT 
    and then pressing Enter.
13. Shut down the system and restart OS/2.  Remember to remove the driver 
    disk from your floppy drive.
    
Notes:
Support for the secondary video adapter is not currently available.  If you 
select the secondary adapter, no files will be copied, and configuration files 
will be modified.

This release supports OS/2 version 2.1 or better.  It requires the 32-bit 
graphics engine.  Do not attempt to install these drivers on OS/2 version 2.0.

During the installation, if the DSPINSTL program cannot find the driver disk, 
the volume label may not have been correctly extracted.  The correct volume 
label is P90DRV 1 (the space between P90DRV and the 1 is required). For 
example, if your drive A is your 3.5" floppy drive, you would type:

LABEL A: <enter>
P90DRV 1 <enter>

If your system hangs after installation, or the mouse pointer does not appear, 
then make sure that the statement DEVICE=\OS2\POWER_9K\P9000.SYS is placed at 
the top of the CONFIG.SYS file.

To return to standard VGA after installing the Viper OS/2 2.1 drivers:
1.  Insert the Viper OS/2 2.1 driver disk into a diskette drive.
2.  Select an OS/2 Windows or OS/2 Full Screen session from the Command 
    Prompts folder.
3.  Type A: or B: (depending on where the Viper OS/2 driver disk is located) 
    and press Enter.
4.  Type DSPINSTL and hit Enter.
5.  Click on the OK button (or hit Enter) on the Help not Available dialog 
    box.
6.  Select the Primary Display check-box, then click OK.
7.  Select the Remove P9000 Driver option, then click OK.
8.  Change the location of the source driver (if necessary), then click OK.
9.  When the system reports the completion, remove the driver diskette, shut 
    down your system and reboot.


Known Problems/Limitations:
1.  Win-OS2 Full Screen is limited to 386 Enhanced Mode only.  This is a 
    limitation of the driver.  To change to 386 Enhanced Mode:
	a.  Click once on the Win-OS2 Full Screen icon.
	b.  Open up the Settings notebook.
	c.  Click on the Session tab.
	d.  Click on Win-OS2 Settings.
	e.  The top option is WIN_RUN_MODE.  Click on 386 Enhanced 
	    Compatibility.
	f.  Click on Save.
	g.  Close the Settings notebook.

2.  When using Harvard Graphics for Windows seamlessly in 1280x1024 mode, 
    the system hangs.

3.  When using the OS/2 Pulse utility, stray pixels may appear on the right 
    border of the Pulse display.

4.  IBM UltiMedia Builder/2 is reported as being slow under these drivers.
