Phoenix Technologies, Ltd. - Confidential Twins95 - CD Remapper for Windows 95 Release Notes, May 5, 1995 VCDREMAP.VXD, version 0.31 CDREMAP.EXE, version 1.0j 1. Introduction: Most CDROM-based applications have the limitation of expecting media to be in certain drive. Normally, this would be the first CDROM drive found or the drive in which the application was previously installed from. To remove this limitation under Windows 95, a combination of TSR/VxD is required. For "DOS-based" applications, the current CDREMAP.EXE TSR is needed to remap requests. For "Windows-based" applications, the virtual VCDREMAP.VXD will intercept and remap all necessary calls. This solution presumes that the user will always start Windows 95 before running applications, DOS or Windows. 2. Installation: Follow these steps to install CDRemapper (an example is given for clarification purpose) : a. Copy CDREMAP.EXE and VCDREMAP.VXD to the directory of your choice. C:\CDREMAP b. Call CDREMAP.EXE from the WINDOWS\DOSSTART.BAT. This needs to be done after the loading of MSCDEX.EXE. C:\xxx\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD0001 ..... C:\CDREMAP\CDREMAP.EXE c. In the [386Enh] section of SYSTEM.INI, load VCDREMAP.VXD. Device=C:\CDREMAP\VCDREMAP.VXD Steps (b) is required for DOS applications that force Windows to exit before running, such as MegaRace. Step (c) is required for "Windows-based" applications such as US ATLAS. 3. Known Limitations The known bugs and unresolved issues for this release are listed here.
