It eliminates the need for several CD-ROM manufacturer bundled drivers which work only for its specific brand and/or model. This device driver is considered Freeware during its development period and does not carry a guarantee of its usage, fitness, or purpose. Feedback on this driver would be helpful for improvements but is not required. Refer to the CDROM.TXT file for a list of IDE CD-ROM drives. Features: * Universal support for ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drives * Supports up to FOUR ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drives which may be of different brands. * Compatible with Microsoft MSCDEX.EXE ======================================================= | ATAPI IDE CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION | ======================================================= To load the Promise Universal ATAPI IDE Device driver to support your ATAPI IDE CDROM drive(s) for use with MS-DOS, you require the following: An IBM PC compatible system An ATAPI compatible IDE Controller An ATAPI standard IDE CD-ROM drive MS-DOS Version 3.1 or later Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions(MSCDEX.EXE) Note: MSCDEX.EXE must be loaded into the AUTOEXEC.BAT for DOS to recognize the CD-ROM drive. To install the PTICD.SYS device driver, copy the PTICD.SYS driver to the appropriate [drive:][path], and than add a device line in CONFIG.SYS with the following format: DEVICE=[drive:][path]PTICD.SYS [/D:Device_name] [/V] Parameters are defined as such: [drive:][path] Specifies the location (drive and directory) and name of the device driver file. /D:device_name Specifies the device name of the CD-ROM drive (8 characters maximum). This must be identical to the device name specified in the MSCDEX.EXE parameters. /V Verbose Mode - display driver status information during bootup. For DOS to recoginize the CD-ROM drive as a drive letter, MSCEDEX must be loaded into the AUTOEXEC.BAT with the following format: [drive:][path]MSCDEX.EXE [/D:Device_name] Note: The MSCDEX.EXE "Device_name" label must match the label in the PTICD.SYS device line.
