(Optional) (Not necessary for device driver or host adapter but may be necessary for some CD-ROM application programs.) III. INSTALL/TECH TIPS (READ BEFORE INSTALLATION): 1) Command line parameter '/I' (controls Disk Change status) If this switch is not specified, the driver will not return an "Invalid Disc Change" error if the SAME disc is reinserted into the drive. This may cause a problem if two different disc's having the same volume size are being used. If you are experiencing this problem, specifying the /I switch will force the driver to always return an "Invalid Disc Change" error anytime a disc is changed. (SAME or DIFFERENT disc) Usage: DEVICE=C:\DEV\FDCD.SYS /D:MSCD000 /I 2) LASTDRIVE = Z in the CONFIG.SYS file. The Simple Start installation programs (Install.Exe for DOS, and Setup.Exe for Windows) use drive letter "L" as the default assignment for the CD-ROM drive. While the "Novice" option does not allow the user to modify this assignment, the "Custom" option allows the user to assign any available letter to the CD-ROM drive. (Caution: Before assigning a drive letter to your CD-ROM drive using the Custom option of the Simple Start installation program, BE SURE that the letter you are choosing is not already assigned to another device on your system!) The Custom option in the Windows Simple Start installation (Setup.Exe) will use the CD-ROM drive letter in the "LASTDRIVE = " line in CONFIG.SYS. The other Simple Start options all use "LASTDRIVE = Z". The PowerSCSI! installation program (Powerwin.Exe) will default to using the first available drive letter for the CD-ROM reader, and 'Z' as the "LASTDRIVE". After your computer setup is complete and your CD-ROM and any other peripherals have been added, it is a good idea to change the "LASTDRIVE = Z" statement to "LASTDRIVE = x" where "x" is the last drive letter being used by any device on your system. Doing this insures that DOS does not reserve any more drive letters than necessary. Example: If you have one fixed drive with two partitions using drive letter C & D and one CD-ROM drive using drive letter E, set LASTDRIVE to E (LASTDRIVE = E). This is very important for Network users so that drive letters will be available to access Network drives as in a Novell environment. 3) For compatibility with the Future Domain's FDDEVICE.SYS device driver, load the FDDEVICE.SYS driver before loading NECCDR.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS file.
