Additional Information Aztech CD-ROM Device Driver for OS/2 Version 2.1 & 2.11 Installation Method =================== All installation instructions below are written for a system which is configured for booting OS/2 from the C: partition. If your boot drive is other than C:, please substitute your boot drive letter for C:. If you have an OS/2 version 2.11 upgrade CSD set and would like to upgrade your system from verion 2.10 to version 2.11, you should first follow the instructions below to install OS/2 version 2.1 and CDA268-01A, then upgrade to version 2.11 from OS/2 version 2.11 upgrade CSD set. I. If you are installing OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 Operating System from the OS/2 compact disc (CD), please begin the installation on step A. II. If you are installing OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 Operating System from a series of diskettes, please complete the respective installation on your system first and go on to Step B for installing Aztech CD-ROM Drive to an Existing OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 System. III. If you are installing Aztech CD-ROM Drive to an Existing OS/2 version 2.1 System, please go on to step B. A. Install OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 Operating System from the OS/2 compac disc ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Please make a copy of OS/2 Diskette #1. 2. Copy the AZTCD268.ADD file from the Aztech CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette to the root directory on the copy of OS/2 Diskette #1. 3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the new copy of OS/2 Diskette #1. At the end of the file, please add the the following line: BASEDEV=AZTCD268.ADD /P:nnn /V where /P:nnn -- nnn is the CD-ROM I/O port address in Hex. /V -- Verbose * Do not specify a file path for the AZTCD268.ADD file. 4. Begin the OS/2 installation by inserting the "OS/2 Installation Diskette" into drive A: and restarting the system. When prompted to insert Diskette #1, please insert the copy that you modified. 5. When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation: i). If you are installing OS/2 version 2.11, the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "Other". Do not modify the choice and continue with the installation. If the CD-ROM Device Support field displays "None" instead of "Other", select the CD-ROM Device Support check box and then select the choice "OTHER" from the bottom of CD-ROM drive listing. ii). If you are installing OS/2 version 2.1, the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None". Do not modify the choice and continue with the installation. 6. After OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 installation is complete, you need to shut down and restart your system. * If you are installing OS/2 version 2.11, your CD-ROM installation is completed and CDA268-01A CD-ROM drive is ready to use now. * If you are installing OS/2 version 2.1, you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive. This is due to a defect in the OS/2 version 2.1 install program. To access your CD-ROM drive, please continue the installation in the following instructions: i) Copy the following files from the OS/2 version 2.1 Diskette #1 to the drive which OS/2 was installed. COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2 COPY A:CDFS.IFS C:\OS2 ii) Copy AZTCD268.ADD file from the Aztech CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette to your C:\OS2 sub-directory, if you can't find it in the C:\OS2 sub-directory. COPY A:AZTCD268.ADD C:\OS2 iii) You should have the following statement in your CONFIG.SYS. If you do not, add the following statement to the end of the CONFIG.SYS file. BASEDEV=AZTCD268.ADD /P:nnn /V where nnn is the CD-ROM I/O port address in Hex. iv) Add the following statements to the end of the CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q v) Shut down and reboot the system. vi) You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining system files. a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop. b. Open the System Setup folder. c. Open Selective Install. d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box and then select "OK". e. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and then select the choice "OTHER". f. Select "OK". g. Select the "OK" push button to proceed from the System Configuration screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window. h. Select Install. i. When prompted to do so, insert the installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 version 2.1 product. j. Shut down and reboot the system. k. CD-ROM drive installation is completed. B. Install Aztech CD-ROM Drive to an Existing OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Run DDINSTAL program from OS/2 System. i. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop. ii. Open the System Setup folder. iii. Open Device Driver Install. iv. Insert the "Aztech CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette" v. Select Install. vi. Select the device driver to install from the list. vii. Select "OK". viii. Shut down and reboot the system. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System. i. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop. ii. Open the System Setup folder. iii. Open Selective Install. iv. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box and then select "OK". v. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and select the choice OTHER. vi. Select "OK". vii. Select the "OK" push button to proceed from the System Configuration screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window. viii. Select Install. ix. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product. 3. If you have changed the base I/O port address on your CD-ROM host adapter card, you must edit your CONFIG.SYS file and add the /P:nnn parameter on the BASEDEV=AZTCD268.ADD statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. 4. Shut down and restart your system. Troubleshoot CDA268-01A ************************ If your OS/2 version 2.1 or 2.11 system does not recognize CDA268-01 CD-ROM drive after installation, please check the CONFIG.SYS file for the following statements. If you do not, add the following statements to your CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=AZTCD268.ADD /P:nnn /V where nnn is the CD-ROM I/O Port Address in Hex. DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q Please make sure that you are using the right CD-ROM I/O address for "nnn" in the "/P:nnn" paramenter above. Also, you should have the following files in your C:\OS2 sub-directory. If you do not, please copy AZTCD268.ADD file from the Aztech CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette to C:\OS2 sub-directory and a) If you have the OS/2 compact disc (CD), copy OS2CDROM.DMD and CDFS.IFS files from OS/2 Diskette #1 to C:\OS2 sub-directory. b) If you have a series of OS/2 3.5" diskettes, use UNPACK2.EXE on Diskette #2 to decompress the CDROMREQ file on Diskette #5 to C:\OS2 sub-directory. The OS2CDROM.DMD and CDFS.IFS are in compressed file format in CDROMREQ file. ------- The End -------
