TH-SIG is a simple program to add an .sig to each outgoing piece of Internet email and each Usenet newspost. Many systems use such .sigs to advertise their system, or furnish a standard disclaimer. Because it is a PPE, and uses the findfirst() and findnext() functions, you must be running PCBoard 15.21 or greater. Installation is simple, and reading the directions will probably take you longer than installing the program: 1) Create a subdirectory somewhere on your BBS and unzip this archive into it. You should have three files: TH-SIG.DOC - This doc file, TH-SIG.PPE - The PPE itself, and TH-SIG.SIG - A sample .sig file 2) Add a line to the event that exports your mail and news. In my case, it looks like this: pcboardm /ppe:c:\pcb\ppl\th-sig\th-sig.ppe If you don't use the multiport version of PCBoard, change "pcboardm" to "pcboard". If you've stored the program in some other path, change the pathname. (NB: there must be a valid PCBOARD.DAT in the directory you run TH-SIG from. I'd suggest just putting the above commandline immediately after the line that runs UUOUT.) 3) Create your .sig file. It should have the same base name as the PPE, and have the extension .SIG. (Translation: if you've renamed TH-SIG.PPE to -- for example -- TAGGER.PPE, you should name your .sig file TAGGER.SIG.) The format is very simple: Create the .sig file exactly as you want it to appear in messages. (TH-SIG will automatically translate DOS' CRLF end of lines into UNIX LF end of lines.) You may have as many lines as you want, but each line must contain something as a blank line will be seen as the end of the file. If you want a line to _look_ blank, include a space or a tab. (WARNING 1: .sigs longer than 4-6 lines may result in nasty email from other systems.) (WARNING 2: TH-SIG has not been tested with lines greater than 80 characters.) That's it! TH-SIG is ready to run. When run, it will check your mailhost and newshost directories for outgoing messages. Each message found will be checked to see if it has already been tagged. If not, TH-SIG will add a --- and then your BBS' .sig. All processing is logged to the screen so you can see what it's doing, and there are no pauses or shareware delays. TH-SIG is _FREEWARE_, meaning that I retain all copyright, but you may use the program as long as you want without ever paying a cent. If you love the program, feel free to send money to the address below, however. I'm debating enhancing TH-SIG to allow for each BBS caller to have his or her own .sig to be automatically attached to each message either in addition to or instead of the BBS' own .sig. If I recieve at least $100 in donations, I will do the enhancing. If not, I'll concentrate on a few other projects I'm working on, including an email-to-BBS-conference program (something UUIN lacks that I sorely miss from Ed Hopper's uuPCB) and an FTP-by-mail server (to allow people to request files from your BBS by email).
