***************************************************************************** SHK proudly presents A PPE by Essential Obscenity Conference Selector v2.01 ***************************************************************************** Introduction Not bad... 2 SHK PPEs in two days. If you haven't seen it yet, request a file called EO-FILE2.ZIP, it contains my first SHK PPE, a F command Enhancer. This PPE is an on the fly lightbar conference list and selector. Every time it's run it reads in the CNAMES PCBoard data file and makes a selectable list of conferences. Very easy to use, and make it unneccesary for the sysop to update the CNFN file list displayed to the users. It's also completely colour configurable with an external configuration file. What You Need A PCboard 15.2+ BBS setup on your computer. A little knowledge of how to do things with Pcboard. Less than 250 conferences. I had to put some limit on it... 250 sounded nice. If you need more, try to find me. :) Preferably a forced ansi system. This PPE won't work unless the user is logged with Ansi graphics enabled. If ansi isn't enabled this PPE should just boot them along their way without them even the wiser. Installation Simple. Load up PCBSETUP. Choose "B File Locations". Then choose "B Configuration Files". Use F2 to edit "Name/Loc of default CMD.LST File", It should already have a pathname something like "C:\pcb\gen\CMD.LST". Then enter in "J" as the command. (You could make it FILE or something else, but this PPE is more designed as an J command replacement.) Enter in a low security... so your validated users can access it. And enter in the path to this PPE in the right most column. ("C:\PCB\EO-PPE\EO-CONF2.PPE" would be appropriate... :) Exit and Save the file... and that's it. Now... if you can't figure out the above, well... you should never have become a sysop in the first place. :) (Now... where have you seen the last two sectionbs before? :) Configuration The only thing configurable in this PPE is the colours... everything else I get from PCBoard own data files on the fly. Just edit "EO-CONF2.CNF" in your favorite TEXT editor, like EDIT included with MS-dos. Make sure you don't mistakingly put spaces after the colour codes. The default for this file is this... in case you delete it accidentally: -------------Begin @X3D @X3A @X08 @X07 @X07 @X07 @X0F @X08 @X0B ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There must be no preceding blank lines or spaces. Colour code may be in @X Pcboard codes or ansi. (@X is highly recommended.) There must be no spaces after the colour code, otherwise strange things will happen... :) Line 1: Colour of border of left and top sides. Line 2: Colour of border of right and bottom sides. Line 3: Colour of regular text. Line 4: Colour of bolded text. Line 5: Colour of Conference name list. Line 6: Colour of number unhighlighted. Line 7: Colour of number highlighted. Line 8: Colour of arrows unhighlighted. Line 9: Colour of arrows highlights. -------------End Remember, there is no leading blank lines. On Another Note Conference names that are less than 50 characters in length. 60 is the maximum imposed by PCboard, but I thought that was extremely long and 50 is more than enough. Hey 50 is enough for names like: ĂUSENET´ ALT.BARNEY.DINOSAUR.DIE.DIE.DIE ĂUSENET´ ALT.BINARIES.PICTURES.EROTICA.ORIENTALS And any other such things. (hey, it's only ten less... :) Also, you may want to increase the length of the name also. Things like; Main Board, General, are very small. Max them out a bit, include a short discription of the base in the name, like: ĂLocal´ Main Conference Area ĂLocal´ General Discussions and Idle Chatter ĂLocal´ Ansi - For those who are ansi inclined Conclusion This PPE is great. :) Oh, and free. No registration crap. :) If you need to get in contact with me for any reason, leave a message on a board I'm on, or at any SHK site asking where one could find me. In the future I may have an Internet address... but for now... I wish you luck. DISKLAMER I'm not responsible for what the ppe may directly or indirectly do. But, if it's any reassurance to you, I promise that I haven't put anything in to intentionally do harm. Whats New v1.00 Non-Released. Custom work for The Dream Frequency. v2.00 Altered Appearance, added the ability for the PPE to read the PCB Data files directly so configuration wasn't neccesary. Added the external configuration file to make all colours changeable. v2.01 It seems the character isn't displayed by some term programs, changed it and to something else. *****************************************************************************
