Program : ML110.PPE Compile Date : 01/06/96 Archive Contents: ML110.DOC - This File ML110.PPE - Mailing List PPL Executable MAINMENU.HLP - Mailing List Main Menu Helpfile MAILLIST.CFG - Sample Configuration File HISTORY.DOC - Program History File General Summary : This PPE will give users the capability to create and manage mailing list files. I've always wanted a method of creating and maintaining mailing lists, but never saw anything that would do this. And while perusing the net one day, I saw another SysOp ask about this capability, and the response from Salt Air was to write a PPE to do so. That's when I realized that Clark was probably not going to add this capability really soon. So, I wrote this one to "fill in the gap", so to speak, until that happens. PPE Description: The PPE is actually pretty simple. The user simply types "MAILLIST" (or whatever you decide to call the PPE in your CMD.LST file). The first time a user runs the program, the system will tell them that they have no mailing lists in their database, and will prompt them to create a new list, if they want. If it is not the first time the user has used the mailing list manager, they will be presented with a menu allowing them to address a message by entering the number of any of the mailing lists in their database, or to manage their database lists. Installation : 1. Copy these files into their new home by creating a new directory for the PPE (ie. C:\PCB\PPE\MAILLIST). ** Create a directory called "LISTDATA" off your MAILLIST PPE subdirectory. This is where your users' mailing lists will be stored ** 2. Add the maillist command to your CMD.LST file (From PCBSETUP, select FILE LOCATIONS/CONFIGUTATION FILES) For Example: MAILLIST 10 0 0 C:\PCB\PPE\MAILLIST\ML110.PPE CMD ^^^ *Important* Make sure you include the CMD argument or the PPE will not work! 3. Next, you'll need to whip out the old text editor and modify the configuration file. The configuration file should be entered as outlined below: CONFIGURATION FILE GUIDE ------------------------ LINE 1: SysOp's Name LINE 2: Name of Your BBS LINE 3: Your Registration Number, "0" if Unregistered (Put any number here. It's ignored) 4. That's all there is to it. Registration : The unregistered version of this program has no delays, or nags. The only restrictions are that users will be limited to 2 mailing lists, and may have a maximum of 5 entries in each list. In the registered program, users may have up to 20 mailing lists, with a maximum of 20 entries per list. You may find the unregistered version satisfactory for your BBS. If such is the case, you are free to use it for as long as you like. Support : Michael A.
