GES Message Counter Version 1.0 =================== GES Message Counter is a program that I wrote, very simply, to show the number of messages on our BBS. It counts all of the messages on the BBS, only accessing the index files, not the MSGS file (I'm not fond of scrambled conferences ). It generates two bulletins, one a list of message numbers by conference, and the other is a list of the total messages and the number of messages in each network. It was rather enlightening to me, as I really had no idea which conferences were high volume and which were dead. I hope that it will be a help to you as well. This program is provided without any warranty of any kind. I will not be responsible for any damages incurred while using this program. It has performed flawlessly for a period of time on my system, before being released, but I can not guarantee that it will work as well for you. PCBoard 15.21 is required for it's use. If you have any comments or suggestions for additions or improvements, I can be reached on: The Limberlost North East PA 814-725-2990 You may log in using the name "GES GUEST" with no password, which will allow you to download new versions or to leave me a comment. Comments or messages will not be answered unless you sign the message with your real name and leave a voice or BBS phone number. I can also be reached in Friends or Intelec networks or in Salt Air's PPL conferences. MSGNUM.CFG ---------- 00000 GEORGE SIEGEL Reserved h:\pcb\blt\BLT29 h:\pcb\BLT\BLT30 N 4 Y D:\PPE\CONFNUM.ASC D:\PPE\NETWORK.ASC Line 1 - Registration number, leave as 00000 unless registered Line 2 - Sysop name. Line 3 - name of conferences that are not in use - such as Reserved, Empty, Closed etc. Used so that the unused conferences between networks and such are not displayed. If you use more than one name, the others can be added to the MSGNUM.NO file. It's just a little faster if the name is here, as it doesn't have to check it against the MSGNUM.NO file. Line 4 - Path and name of Message Number by Conference Bulletin Must have the drive and path. I display this one as a bulletin. This file has the PCB @ color codes in it (as does the MSGNUM.BLT) if you need one without the color codes, let me know and I'll strip them out. BTW, you can use any filename here that you like, it doesn't have to be CMSGNUM.BLT Line 5 - Path and name of Message Number by Network Bulletin. For details, see Line 4... Line 6 - "Y" = Use Full Names ( 60 characters for each conference name) giving 1 column display "N" = Use 2 column display ( 22 characters for each conference name) With all of the systems doing Internet News Groups and such, I figured that I'd better add a way to give the FULL conference names if neccesary, so I put in two types of displays. Line 7 - Number of entries in the MSGNUM.NO file. I have this in here so that it stops checking after it hits the last entry, it makes it run a little faster. Line 8 - Would you also like seperate ascii bulletins generated? "Y" for Yes, "N" for No (imagine that!) Line 9 - The path and file name for the ascii bulletin for message numbers by conference. Line 10 - The path and file name for the ascii bulletin for messages by network. MSGNUM.NET ---------- Friends 25 50 CafeThyme 99 110 Intelec 111 350 Rosenet 351 389 MSI Support 390 395 PEN 399 450 CompuLink 500 598 This ones easy, on the first line, type in the network name the way you'd like it displayed, on the second, put the LOW conference number for that network, on the third line put the HIGH conference for that network, then do the same with each network you have (up to 20) This is for the message by network Bulletin. Any conference that falls into the range between the low conference and high conference will be counted as in that network. It has no effect on the message by conference Bulletin. If you have your BBS set up with a network in more than one conference range ( such as Friends in conferences 20-29, Intelec in 30-230, and then Friends in 231-240) you would list Friends twice in the config file: Friends 20 29 Intelec 30 230 Friends 231 240 GES Message Counter will read add the two Friends blocks together when generating the network bulletin, and will only display the total, it will not show the network twice. MSGNUM.NO ========= EMPTY 10 14 99 Just put in any conferences that you do not wish to be displayed in this list, either the name or number, one per line (don't have it doing a range yet). If you have some empty conferences named Reserved and some named Empty, you can put "Reserved" in the CFG file and "Empty" here. Neither of them will be displayed in EITHER bulletin. Make sure that you put the number of entries in this file, into the CFG file. Running this puppy ================== Just add it into an event (or from the command line). Here's my command line, adjust the paths for your system. h: cd\pcb pcboardm /ppe:h:\pcb\ppe\msgnum.ppe REGISTRATION ============ C'mon, you knew it had to show up sometime .
