TAGLINES.PPE By Andrew Lazarus Introduction ------------ I'm often envious of those who use off-line mail readers that can insert tag lines into the end of their message. I just know that I can throw a few witty words their way as well. So, I got a notion to write a tagline PPE that I could implement within PCBoard's message editor. A couple of hours (and several revisions [read, new toys] later), I had just what I was looking for. Hope you enjoy it just as much as I do. Installation ------------ 1) Put the TAGLINES.PPE file wherever you put your other PPEs. It doesn't really matter, so long as you remember where it is. 2) Put your favorite (or the one included) taglines text file (which must have only one tagline per line, and each line must be terminated by a carriage return/line feed) into the SAME directory as your TAGLINES.PPE program. The default name is, of course, TAGLINES.TXT. 3) Start PCBSetup and go to the function keys (G-Configuration, H-Function Keys). Pick the function key you are going to want to use to start the taglines program. I chose Shift-F1 for my signature, and Shift-F2 for the taglines program. A quick one-two punch. 4) On the line of the designated function key, enter "! TAGLINES.PPE" (without the quotes, substituting the drive and path that the PPE resides). 5) Save the new configuration. That's it! Usage ----- There's nothing complicated about this program. The taglines program selects one of your taglines at random, so you won't see a lot of repeats (unless you have a really tiny tagline file :-)). 1) After you have entered your message text, and are ready to "select" a tagline, press the Shift key and the function key you assigned the taglines PPE to. 2) The bottom line of your working screen (not the status lines) will be replaced by a tagline, and a prompt "(Use [y/N]? ". 3) If you like the tagline, just press "Y" ( is not required) and the tagline will be inserted into your message. 4) If you don't like the tagline, press any other regular key ( works just fine) and another selection will pop up. Just keep pressing (or "N" or just about anything else for that matter) until you see one you like. Then press "Y" (again, no is required). 5) If you get bored with the selections, or you decide you don't want to add a tag to this message, press the ESC key and no tagline will be inserted into your message. In all cases, when you are done, the bottom line is restored to the way it was. This will be iffy in some cases, especially if you were on the very last screen line of a message and you weren't in the full-screen editor, what gets restored (a line number) may seem a little odd. In full-screen editor mode, this thing is a charmer. REGISTRATION ------------ To register this PPE just call MY BBS and Become a PAYING customer.
