Well, I guess I have to first tell you where all this came from. In the Beginning (Of my 12th grade year - that is), August of 1996, I was hit with the harsh reality of my schedule - first year college calculus and second year college physics. What I was thinking when I decided to take these classes is beyond me, and an entirely different story. So anyway, I was handed an HP48G calculator to use during that school year for these classes. Now, I already owned, and proficiently programmed on, a TI85, so I was a little wary - it being a new calculator with that damned annoying reverse polish notation (RPN) crap. But temptation, and a surprisingly easy physics teacher (Thanx, Mr. D!), allowed my friend, Jason Maughn, and me to begin playin around. Well, about a month later, we knew all there was to know (as we thought then) and was searching for inspiration when suddenly, one of my friends showed me that crappy (No offense) Note program, when it hit me - I can write a program MUCH better and smaller than this crap; so I did. At first, I wrote HP97 in slow, bulky USER-RPL (v1.0), because it was all I knew existed for the HP, when suddenly SYS-RPL walked into my life. After a few weeks of troubles and an error in the batch file to build SYS-RPL files which constantly caused errors in my compilations, the errors were fixed, and all was set for the Great Transition (From USER- to SYS-RPL, that is). And thus I finished the SYS-RPL adapted version 1.1, on 1/14/96. Now, I was a novice when I rewrote my code, and unfortunately learned the error of my ways when I was 3/4 done writing HP-'97 v1.1, but I figured that I'd just release it, and see what kind of response it got. Well, it got ALOT, so after making an inbetween version (v1.2), I decided I was to entirely rewrite HP-'97. Well, the summer after my Senior year rolled around, and I kinda slacked the entire summer until I started talking to Samuel Mathieson. He was willing to devote his time to almost entirely rewrite HP-'97 into the new, improved HP-'98 that sits before you. I'm sure you will be pleased with its current features, and the many that are on the way! 1.1 Installation Here are the LIBs in this ZIP file: HP98v22.LIB - NON-UFL HP-'98 HELP.4U - Adds an Online Help Program to PROGRAMS MENU UFL1.LIB - UFL Font1 (Needed for HP98UFL.LIB!) And then, hit Right-Shift & 2 (Library Menu), and choose HP'98. Now, to run HP-'98, simply press WIND!!! !!!NOTE!!! SETUP is automatically run the first time you run HP-'98. You can use the mouse (which uses the KeyPad for navigation, including diagonal directions!), you can use the A Menu Key to toggle the START MENU ON/OFF (Useful when you choose the wrong item on the START MENU!!!), and, when you are within the menus, you can use the arrow keys to move from possible command to command, and the ENTER key to execute!!! 3.1 General Information - Miscellaneous Keys The only non-obvious keys are those used when scrolling through the PROGRAMS menu. Other than using the mouse, you may use these keys to navigate the scrolling PROGRAMS menu: Up Arrow - Move the Highlight Up 1 step (or around to bottom) Down Arrow - Move the Highlight Down 1 step (or around to top) / - Top Page * - Up one selection (I dont know how to explain, put about 10 things in the programs menu ant test them) - - Down one selection + - Bottom Page 3.2 General Information - Sound Themes Ah, yes, sound themes, annoy your peers! Well, thats not really what they're there for, but suit yourself. I added this funciton for two reasons - I was having a hard time thinking of anything to put in the 'Controls' menu and to give it more of a Windows feel. In the next update, the additions listed in the 'Coming Features' section should be complete. 3.3 General Information - Desktop Icons To create/edit/delete a Desktop Icon, go to the START -> CONTROLS -> DESKTOP menu. To Create: After clicking on the CREATE option a PVIEW (Picture editor) screen will appear with a black box in the upper-lefthand corner. The box represents the maximum size of the icon, just press the EDIT button and then draw the icon. Then hit ON and you will be asked for a program name, this is the executable program's name. Then you will return to HP-'98, and you can click or use the arrow keys to move the Desktop Icon Cursor around and hit ENTER to run the program associated with that icon. 4 Credits Well, these are the people that made it happen!
