***** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***** September 20, 1990 CONTACT: Eric Gakstatter or Richard Ash CORVALLIS MICROTECHNOLOGY, INC. 413 SW Jefferson Ave. Corvallis, OR 97333 Tel: (503) 752-5456 Corvallis, OR -- Still savoring the sweet success with the memory modules it designed and manufactured for the HP-41C and HP-71B Calculators, Corvallis Microtechnology now introduces its memory cards for the new HP-48SX Scientific Expandable Calculators manufactured by Hewlett Packard Company. The credit card size memory cards are available as RAM (Random Access Memory) or EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). These may be plugged into either of the two HP-48SX ports. The CMT RAM card adds 128K bytes of read/write memory to the HP-48SX. The RAM may be configured as user memory or independent memory. It is backed up by a 3-Volt coin cell battery and is protected from electrostatic discharges by built-in tranzorbs. A write-protect switch guards it from accidental erasure. The CMT EEPROM card features TSOP package design for extra reliability. Up to 128K bytes of programs and data may be stored into it by means of a ROM "burning" process using the CMT EEPROM Programmer. Programs may be executed directly out of the EEPROM cards without first being copied to the HP-48SX user memory. Each EEPROM card may be erased and reprogrammed at least 100 times. (10,000 erase-program cycles are typical.) It takes only about one minute to electrically erase the EEPROM as compared to 15 minutes for erasing a conventional EPROM using ultraviolet light eraser. The CMT EEPROM Programmer is designed specifically for programming the plug-in EEPROM cards. The Programmer has built-in erasing circuit and commands so a separate eraser is not required. Since the CMT EEPROM Programmer can be used to program the EEPROM cards in small or large quantities, it is a great tool for marketing and distributing application programs. The CMT-48 memory cards and programmer are supplied by CMT and CMT dealers. List prices are: $160 for the RAM card, $100 for the EEPROM card and $295 for the EEPROM Programmer. Corvallis Microtechnology, Inc. was formed in 1984. Its main line of business is the design and manufacture of handheld computers and peripherals.
