National Datacomm Corporation Novell NetWare Remote Program Load (RPL) Software For NDC NE2000 Ethernet Adapter With NDET06 INSTALLATION GUIDE This installation guide describes how to install the Novell NetWare Remote Program Load (RPL) software on the NetWare 3.1X/4.0X server with NDC NE2000 Ethernet Adapter (ND41XX/ND50XX). Instructions to be used if establishing RPL with the server using NDET06 Find/Found protocol, associated with the 802.2 protocol frame, boot ROM. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR NetWare 3.1x/4.0x SERVER 1. Start the NetWare server. Load and bind the NE2000 with the ETHERNET_802.2 frame. :LOAD NE2000 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.2 :BIND IPX TO NE2000 2. Skip this step if your server is NetWare 3.12/4.0X. (RPL.NLM and RBOOT.RPL are already in NetWare 3.12/4.0x. You don't have to and should not copy these two files in NDC"Setup Program" diskette to NetWare 3.12/4.0x server.) Login as supervisor to the NetWare 3.11 server and copy the "RBOOT.RPL" file to the F:\LOGIN directory and the "RPL.NLM" file to the F:\SYSTEM directory. Note: Both files can be found in the RPL directory of the NDC Ethernet "Setup Program" diskette. 3. Load the RPL support on server. :LOAD RPL :BIND RPL TO NE2000 4. The following is an example to build an RPL image. (a) Format a DOS bootable diskette.(FORMAT A:/S) (b) Copy ODI drivers (LSL, NE2000, IPXODI, NETX, NET.CFG..) and AUTOEXEC.BAT to the diskette. Example of AUTOEXEC.BAT and NET.CFG AUTOEXEC.BAT: PROMPT $P$G LSL NE2000 IPXODI NETX NET.CFG Link Driver NE2000 Frame ETHERNET_802.2 INT 3 PORT 300 Note: INT and PROT need to be adjusted according to the card settings. (c) Put the diskette you just created into drive A: of the PC with ND41XX/ND50XX and boot up from A:. Login as "SUPERVISOR" (d) Change directories to "\LOGIN". Type: CD\LOGIN (e) Map drive F to SYS:SYSTEM Type: MAP F:=SYS:SYSTEM (f) Map drive G to SYS:SYSTEM Type: MAP G:=SYS:SYSTEM (g) Change to the SYS:LOGIN directory Type: G: (h) Run DOSGEN to create RPL image file "NET$DOS.SYS". Please delete the "NOT-LOGGED-IN" users in server "MONITOR" if "NET$DOS.SYS" cannot be built. Type: F:DOSGEN (i) Copy the AUTOEXEC.BAT from your bootable diskette to \LOGIN directory. Type: COPY A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT G:\LOGIN (j) Flag the NET$DOS.SYS file in \LOGIN as sharable. Type: FLAG NET$DOS.SYS S < Novell v.3.1x Type: FLAG NET$DOS.SYS S /FO < Novell v.4.0x 5. Enable RPL for PC with ND41XX/ND50XX & NDET06. (a) Run NDC Ethernet Setup Program. For the ND41XX adapters, run "SOFTSET", and for the ND50XX run "NDCONF". Select a range of free memory for the RPL PROM to enable the RPL function. (b) Power off the PC and then power on to boot up the PC from NetWare server. National Datacomm Corporation Novell NetWare Remote Program Load (RPL) Software For NDC NE2000 Ethernet Adapter With NDET07 INSTALLATION GUIDE This installation guide describes how to install the Novell NetWare Remote Program Load (RPL) software on the NetWare 3.1x/4.0X server with NDC NE2000 Ethernet Adapter (ND41XX/ND50XX). Instructions to be used if establishing RPL with the server using NDET07 IPX protocol, associated with the 802.3 protocol frame, boot ROM. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR NetWare 3.1x/4.0x SERVER 1. Start the NetWare server. Load and bind the NE2000 with the ETHERNET_802.3 frame. :LOAD NE2000 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.3 :BIND IPX TO NE2000 2. The following is an example to build an RPL image. (a) Format a DOS bootable diskette.(FORMAT A:/S) (b) Copy ODI drivers (LSL, RPLODI, NE2000, IPXODI, NETX, NET.CFG..) and AUTOEXEC.BAT to the diskette. Example of AUTOEXEC.BAT and NET.CFG AUTOEXEC.BAT: PROMPT $P$G LSL RPLODI NE2000 IPXODI NETX NET.CFG Link Driver NE2000 Frame ETHERNET_802.3 INT 3 PORT 300 Note: INT and PROT need to be adjusted according to the card settings. (c) Put the diskette you just created into drive A: of the PC with ND41XX/ND50XX and boot up from A:. Login as "SUPERVISOR". (d) Change directories to "\LOGIN". Type: CD\LOGIN (e) Map drive F to SYS:SYSTEM Type: MAP F:=SYS:SYSTEM (f) Map drive G to SYS:SYSTEM Type: MAP G:=SYS:SYSTEM (g) Change to the SYS:LOGIN directory Type: G: (h) Run DOSGEN to create RPL image file "NET$DOS.SYS". Please delete the "NOT-LOGGED-IN" users in server "MONITOR" if "NET$DOS.SYS" cannot be built. Type: F:DOSGEN (i) Use "RPLFIX" to fix the image file "NET$DOS.SYS" if your DOS Version used to build the image file is 5.0 or higher. Type: RPLFIX NET$DOS.SYS (j) Copy the AUTOEXEC.BAT from your bootable diskette to \LOGIN directory. Type: COPY A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT G:\LOGIN (k) Flag the NET$DOS.SYS file in \LOGIN as sharable. Type: FLAG NET$DOS.SYS S < Novell v.3.1x Type: FLAG NET$DOS.SYS S /FO < Novell v.4.0x 3. Enable RPL for PC with ND41XX/ND50XX & NDET07. Please refer to p.349-p.352 of "Novell NetWare Version 3.11 Installation" for more detailed information. You may also refer to p.353-p.360 for creating multiple remote boot image files.
