It is not safe to patch a driver unless there is a backup copy of the original driver saved on a different disk or directory. The patch program can then be started by typing NWPATCH. The user should know: o which Novell version of NetWare the driver is from; o whether the driver is for a workstation or server; o for a server driver, whether it is to be the primary, secondary, etc.; o for NetWare v2.0a drivers, what the MHZ driver version number or the creation date of the original driver is; o for NetWare ELS, what the MHZ driver version number is (using the ANET3.COM program, typing "ANET3 i" will cause the version number to be displayed). Follow the instructions given by the patch utility to change the: PC INTERRUPT (IRQ) BASE I/O ADDRESS SHARED RAM MEMORY BASE ADDRESS The patch utility DOES NOT do error checking, so please ensure that the new values entered are VALID! When the parameters displayed match the values desired, enter 'E' or 'e' to save them in the appropriate driver file. To quit the program without making any changes in the driver file, enter 'Q' or 'q'. == NETWARE GENERATION == If you used NWPATCH to change a driver for NetWare v2.1x, be sure to note the following rules when you run the NetWare shell or system generation programs: o Do not select Default Configuration from the Configuration Level menu. o Select the "WD Star/EtherCard PLUS ..." driver option from the Available LAN Drivers menu. o Then select Option 0 from the Driver Configurations menu, even though the text shown for Option 0 does not match the changes that you made with the NWPATCH program.
