Netware Directory
This directory and the directories below it contain configuration software
and run-time drivers for using your AST local area network adapter with a
NetWare environment. Please consult your AST LAN Adapter Installation
Guide for instructions on configuring the adapter, and your AST-Advanced
NetWare or other NetWare documentation for instructions on installing
NetWare.
Before you can configure and install NetWare with your AST adapter, you
must first place the correct drivers on your NetWare diskettes. If you are
using AST-Advanced NetWare, these drivers should already be on your NetWare
master diskettes. If you purchased NetWare from another vendor or if the
driver you need is not on your NetWare masters, please follow the following
instructions.
This diskette contains drivers which are certified for use with NetWare
versions 2.0a and 2.12. They will also run with any other version of
NetWare which is compatible with either of these two releases. If you are
using NetWare 2.0X (including 2.0a, 2.0a++ and 2.01), proceed to Step 1.
If you are using NetWare 2.1X (including 2.1 and 2.12), proceed to Step 9.
STEPS 1-8 ARE FOR NETWARE 2.0X ONLY
===================================
1. Make backup copies of your NetWare 2.0X GENOS-1 and GENSH-1
diskettes, and put the originals safely back in their box.
2. Insert your copy of GENOS-1 into a floppy disk drive and use the DIR
command to view the contents of the root directory.
Typically, you will see something like this:
Volume in drive A is GENOS-1
Directory of A:\
GENOS BAT 1220 4-21-86 11:36a
IBM$RUN OVL 2016 1-21-86 1:50p
$RUN OVL 2016 11-16-85 2:35p
SYS$MSG DAT 14225 5-02-86 10:36a
SYS$ERR DAT 4508 4-23-86 3:58p
SELOS EXE 65536 4-23-87 10:23a
NULL
1-02-87 12:58a
TRN 1-02-87 12:58a
SMC 1-02-87 12:58a
ASYNC 1-02-87 12:58a
GNET 1-02-87 12:58a
ETHERNET 1-02-87 12:58a
3. Select a directory containing NetWare drivers for hardware you are not
using. If you don't use G-NET LAN adapters, for example, you might
select the GNET subdirectory. Please delete the files in that
directory, followed by the directory itself.
4. Create a new directory on GENOS-1 called ASTDRVR.
5. Use the following table to determine which directory on your AST
diskette contains NetWare 2.0X drivers for your particular adapter:
Adapter AST Diskette Directory
------------------------------------------------------
AST-Ethernet \NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW20X
AST-EtherNode \NETWARE\ETHRNODE\NW20X
AST-Resource Sharing Network \NETWARE\RSN\NW20X
AST-Star System \NETWARE\STAR\NW20X
6. Copy the files in the GENOS1 subdirectory of your adapter driver
directory (for example, \NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW20X\GENOS1\*.*) into the
\ASTDRVR directory you just created on GENOS-1. If there is
insufficient disk space on GENOS-1, repeat step 3 and delete
additional unused directories until you can successfully complete this
step.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 but using your copy of the GENSH-1 diskette and
copying files from the GENSH1 subdirectory of your adapter driver
directory (for example, \NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW20X\GENSH1\*.*). Be
careful to remove the same directory from GENSH-1 as you did from
GENOS-1.
8. Using your new GENOS-1 and GENSH-1 diskettes, install NetWare 2.0X in
the usual manner.
STEPS 9-13 ARE FOR NETWARE 2.1X ONLY
====================================
9. Make backup copies of the following NetWare 2.1X diskettes, and put
the originals safely back in their box:
SHGEN-1
LAN_DRVR_002
AUXGEN
Be sure that the copies are not write protected, since you will need
to write to each of them during the installation process.
10. Use the following table to determine which directory on your AST
diskette contains NetWare 2.1X drivers for your particular adapter:
Adapter AST Diskette Directory
------------------------------------------------------
AST-Ethernet \NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW21X
AST-EtherNode \NETWARE\ETHRNODE\NW21X
AST-Resource Sharing Network \NETWARE\RSN\NW21X
AST-Star System \NETWARE\STAR\NW21X
11. Copy *.LAN from your adapter driver directory (for example,
\NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW21X\*.LAN) to the root directories of your
SHGEN-1, AUXGEN and LAN_DRV_002 diskettes.
12. Copy *.OBJ from your adapter driver directory (for example,
\NETWARE\ETHERNET\NW21X\*.OBJ) to the root directory of your
LAN_DRV_002 diskette.
13. Using your new SHGEN-1, LAN_DRV_002 and AUXGEN diskettes, install
NetWare 2.1X in the usual manner.
