INTRODUCTION This manual describes the installation information of E-LAN LAN Adapter Packet Drivers for FTP's PC/TCP network softwares. At first, let's have a brief look at the E-LAN LAN Adapters and PC/TCP Softwares. E-LAN Ethernet Adapter E-LAN cards are Ethernet-based/IEEE 802.3 standard LAN interface products which allows personal computers to communicate with each other and share resources of laser printer, hard disks and common data base, etc. The overall effect is a significant burst in your office automation (OA) productivity. With each card, you can have the advantages of a lot of features as below: *Good quality and reliability. *100% compliance with IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet CSMA/CD standard, 10 MegaBits per second data transfer rate. *Supports Ethernet and Cheapernet (built-in transceiver drivers more than 300 meters of Cheapernet cable). *Hardware compatible with Novell's LAN cards. *Supports PC-LAN, MS-NET, Novell's Advanced NetWare, FTP's PC/TCP and APX LAN O.S. *Remote boot ROM optional. *Customer diagnostic program optional. E-LAN-1000 *8-bit Ethernet LAN adapter *IBM PC/XT/AT Compatible *Compatible with NE-1000 and faster than it E-LAN-2000 *16-bit Ethernet LAN adapter *IBM AT/286/386 Compatible *Compatible with NE-2000 and faster than it FTP's PC/TCP As you know, so far the TCP/IP is the best transport protocol for worldwide host and internetworking data communication. It co-exits with millions of mainframe, mini and microcomputer systems, as well as with public telephone network, X.25 packet switching network, or a variety of data networks. PC/TCP is a collection of programs implementing the ARPA standard TCP/IP protocol family for the IBM PC and compatibles. It supports standard TCP/IP routing functions and subnetting, the use of IP routers to connect multiple LANs together and the Internet domain naming system. These programs let you connect your LAN to a TCP/IP compatible host and run terminal sessions with TELNET, transfer files with FTP, and use electronic mail systems with SMTP. You will have convenient, reliable host-LAN connection. *Standard ARPA TCP/IP protocol family: TELNET, FTP, TFTP, SMTP, Finger, Whois, etc.. *Runs on IBM PC or compatibles under PC-DOS and MS-DOS. *Supports standard subnetting, routing, domain hostname resolution. *Supports Ethernet/Cheapernet connection with either E-LAN-1000 or E-LAN-2000 card. *E-LAN Ethernet interface driver for PC/TCP. Note: 1. Besides PC/TCP, there are some related products available. All of them can run with the E-LAN LAN Adapter's packet drivers. These products are listed below: PC/TCP options: *InterDrive *PC/TCP Plus *PC/TCP Kernel *PC/TCP Development Kit InterDrive is FTP Software's client implementation of NFS. It runs over PC/TCP V2.03 or the PC/TCP Kernel. It provides transparent, fully functionally access to DOS applications and files stored on NFS servers. PC/TCP Development Kit provides the functionality of the programming libraries and allows access to the higher-level functions of FTP, TELNET and RLOGIN. Includes a Berkeley Sockets emulation library. For use with Microsoft C 5.1. PC/TCP Plus consists of PC/TCP with InterDrive for NFS accessing and runs under DOS. PC/TCP Plus supports manu utilities for file transfer, terminal emulation, mail, NFSTM file sharing (through InterDrive), remote backup, printing and network testing, as well as IP procedence, type-of-service, and basic & extended security options. Besides, NetBIOS and Interrupt 14 terminal emulation are options. PC/TCP Kernel consists of PC/TCP without any applications. Included are the underlying TCP, IP and UPD protocols. The PC/TCP Kernel can be used to run custom or third party applications. 2. The present PC/TCP package that E-LAN LAN adapter support is of Generic type with a type number of "210" (for PC/TCP, type# is PC-210, for PC/TCP Plus it is I-210, while for PC/TCP Kernel is K-210), and is to be run with E-LAN LAN adapter's packet drivers. This Generic type can also be used to run with others LAN adapters made by different vendors. However, it is necessary for you to get their corresponding packet drivers for their LAN adapters before you install it. PREPERATION Basically, to install the PC/TCP, you should follow the "PC/TCP Generic Ethernet Driver Installation Guide" through the 6 major steps. The contents described herein are part of the Device Driver installation process only. However, there will be a slight difference in Step 6 (Rebooting the PC) if the E-LAN LAN adapter E-LAN-1000 or E-LAN-2000 is going to be used. Before rebooting the PC, please copy the 'DRVCONF.COM', 'DRV2000.COM' and 'DRV1000.COM' files in the E-LAN adapter packet driver diskettes to the same sub-directory which you have created for "PC/TCP". Referring to Item 1.7 in "PC/TCP Generic Ethernet Driver Installation Guide", complete the following procedures before running the PC/ping program or loading the kernel into memory. H/W CONFIGURATION & SETTING Check the jumper settings on your E-LAN LAN adapter to make sure whether they are the same with the factory default settings (see Table 1). TABLE 1 FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS 1000 2000 IRQ 3 3 Base I/O Address 300H 300H Base Memory Address CC00H C800H If your jumper settings do not conform with Table 1 and there is reason for you to change the default settings, adjust the driver's I/O configuration table to match the hardware settings. In order to do this, please run the 'DRVCONF.COM' installation program and select the type of card to be used. The screen display for selection of card is shown below: PC/TCP Packet Driver Installation Program Version X.XX Please select one card (1. E-LAN1000 2. If there is no error message shown, the driver is installed OK. Now, you may proceed in testing the connection of your computer to the TCP/IP network by running the "PC/ping" program. But before running the other programs, you must first load 'ETHDRV', the kernel program, into the system memory. ERROR MESSAGE Below are 4 kinds of "ERROR MESSAGES" with their respective Source and Remedies: 1."CANNOT INITIALIZE ETHERNET CARD" This error occurs when the hardware configuration and the driver program have different settings. To correct this error, turn off the computer and change the I/O Base and the IRQ of the hardware to match with the driver's settings (refer to E-LAN-1000 and E-LAN-2000 manual); After the above operation, simply run the 'DRVCONF.COM' to confirm whether the default settings of the Driver program is correct or not. 2. "MEMORY TEST ON LAN CARD FAILS" This error occurs when the LAN Card does not work normally. Recheck the LAN Card (refer to the E-LAN LAN Adapter User's Manual). 3. "ETHERNET ADAPTER HARDWARE FAILURE" This error occurs when the LAN Card does not work normally. Recheck the LAN Card (refer to the E-LAN LAN Adapter User's Manual). 4. "FATAL ERROR. PLEASE CONTACT THE DISTRIBUTOR" This error occurs when your LAN Adapter is not compatible with the E-LAN LAN Adapter's Packet Driver programs.
