Installation Guide for Remote Boot PROM ============================================= Introduction ============ There are two kinds of Remote Boot PROM used with NetWare networks. The two types are referred to as follows: . IPX Boot PROM . ODI Boot PROM It is important that you should know the type of Remote Boot PROM you are using. Some procedures for setting up remote booting on your computer are specific to the type of Remote Boot PROM you are using. For more information about the Remote Boot PROM you are using, please refer to your dealler. Installation Procedures ======================= A. IPX Boot PROM installation procedures : (None RPL method) 1. First, using setup program to enable adapter's BootROM function and select none used Base memory address for BootROM. 2. Make a bootable diskette, place that diskette into floppy driver A. 3. Copy the required files to that diskette, for example, "HIMEM.SYS", "EMM386.EXE", "SETVER.EXE", "COMMAND.COM" .... 4. Copy "IPX.COM" and "NETX.COM" files to that diskette. 5. Create "AUTOEXEC.BAT" and "CONFIG.SYS" files. 6. Login NetWare as supervisor. 7. Execute following commands : MAP G:=SYS:SYSTEM MAP F:=SYS:LOGIN 8. Change to the F drive, then Execute following command : G:DOSGEN 9. If your DOS version is 5.0 or higher, execute following command : RPLFIX NET$DOS.SYS 10. Copy "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file from the boot diskette to the LOGIN directory. 12. Last, restart workstation using remote BootROM function to connect NetWare Server. --- Sample CONFIG.SYS file --- : DEVICE=SETVER.EXE LASTDRIVE=E : --- Sample AUTOEXEC.BAT file --- : IPX NETX F:LOGIN : B. ODI Boot PROM installation procedures : (RPL methode) 1. First, using setup program to enable adapter's BootROM function and select none used Base memory address for BootROM. 2. Execute following commands : MAP G:=SYS:SYSTEM MAP F:=SYS:LOGIN 8. Change to the F drive, then Execute following command : G:DOSGEN 9. If your DOS version is 5.0 or higher, execute following command : RPLFIX NET$DOS.SYS 10. Copy "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file from the boot diskette to the LOGIN directory. 11. At NetWare Server console, execute following commands: (Supposing server use NE2000 Compatible adapter) : load NE2000 frame=Ethernet_802.2 : bind IPX to NE2000 : load RPL : bind RPL to NE2000 (Choosing Ethernet_802.2 frame format) 12.
