NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95 and DOS/Windows v1.01 NetWare* Client 32 for Windows* 95 and DOS/Windows 3.1x with Intel's EtherExpress(TM) 10 ISA adapter ==================================================================== Location of Driver: \NWSERVER\EX10.LAN Refer to the appropriate section for either the Windows* 95 or DOS/Windows 3.1x Client 32 installation. General Installation of Client 32 with Windows 95 ------------------------------------------------- Prerequisite: 1 Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system installed. 2 NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95 archive file and patch have been extracted onto the computer's hard drive. 3 Access to the Windows 95 CD or CAB files, since the Client 32 installation will ask for it. IMPORTANT: The 3.30 specification LAN drivers for Plug and Play ISA adapters require a Plug and Play configuration manager to be loaded to configure Plug and Play enabled ISA adapters. If you don't use a configuration manager, you MUST DISABLE PLUG AND PLAY on the 10 ISA adapter. Use EX10Set to disable Plug and Play on the adapter. From the main menu of EX10Set, choose Change Adapter Configuration, Advanced Option Menu, and set Plug and Play to Disabled. General Instructions -------------------- 1 Open the Network configuration screen (My Computer/Control Panel/Network/Configuration). Look for any reference to the Intel EtherExpress 10 ISA adapter. Highlight each one with the mouse and click on "remove". When all instances of the adapter are gone, click on OK and allow the machine to restart. 2 As Windows 95 is restarting, if it displays the message "Windows has found new hardware and is installing software for it", then Plug and Play is still enabled on the adapter. Choose not to install a driver at this time. 3 Run the SETUP.EXE program for Client 32. It is located in the \ENGLISH subdirectory of the Client 32 software. 4 On the NetWare Client 32 Installation screen, do not check the option to upgrade NDIS drivers to ODI automatically. Select start. 5 Select the "have disk" option on the Select Device screen. Enter the drive and directory where the EX10.LAN and EX10.INF (A:\NWSERVER) files are located. 6 Highlight the appropriate driver, based on whether Plug and Play is enabled on the adapter. 7 On the 10 ISA adapter Properties screen, set the I/O address to what it was set in EX10Set. If Plug and Play is enabled, the configuration manager will do this step automatically. 8 On the Recommended NetWare Client 32 properties screen, set the appropriate settings for the version of NetWare you are using. 9 The Client 32 installation program will copy files. It may ask for the source of the Windows 95 installation files. Click OK and then enter the correct path to the files. 10 The Client 32 installation will finish, and you must restart in order for the changes to become effective. Hints and Tips for Client 32 Windows 95 installation ---------------------------------------------------- 1 If you receive the message, "EX10.LAN did not remain resident" when starting Windows 95, verify that Plug and Play is turned off on the adapter and that you have installed the non-Plug and Play version of the driver. General Installation of Client 32 with DOS/Windows 3.1x ------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT: The 3.30 specification LAN drivers for Plug and Play ISA adapters require a Plug and Play configuration manager to be loaded to configure Plug and Play enabled ISA adapters. 1 From the Novell NetWare Client 32 software, run INSTALL.EXE. 2 Select the NetWare Client 32 products you want to install from the on your workstation from the list: [X] NetWare Client 32 for DOS [X] NetWare Client 32 for Windows [ ] NetWare TCP/IP protocol stack [ ] NetWare IP (TCP/IP Required) [ ]Desktop SNMP [ ] HOSTMIB for SNMP (SNMP Required) [ ] NetWare TSA for SMS Note: "NetWare Client 32 for DOS" and "NetWare Client 32 for Windows" are usually selected by default. 3 From the Customize Support for Windows menu, specify if you want to use multiple country codes or if you want to set the shared Windows path. The default for both of these is NO. 4 From the Select LAN Driver Type menu, select "32-bit LAN drivers". 5 From the 32-Bit Network Board Drivers menu, select "USER SPECIFIED 32 BIT DRIVER" 6 From the Insert the Driver Disk menu, insert the EtherExpress 10 ISA disk and specify the path to the driver EX10.LAN and EX10.LDI (A:\NWSERVER). 7 From the 32-bit Network Board Drivers menu, select the "Intel EtherExpress(TM) 10 ISA LAN Adapter". If Plug and Play is enabled on your adapter, and you have a configuration manager loaded, choose the driver specifying "Plug and Play enabled". Otherwise, choose the non Plug and Play version of the driver. 8 Specify the following settings for the Intel EtherExpress LAN adapter, making sure the Base I/O Port matches the setting in EX10Set. If Plug and Play is enabled, the configuration manager will do this step automatically. Parameter Default ------------- ------- Base I/O Port PORT 300 Frame Type Ethernet_802.2 Ethernet_802.3 Note: The default settings will work for most installations. If you use multiple frame types, please see Hints and Tips section below. 9 From the Installation Configuration Summary, verify the default settings for Client 32 are correct, or modify as necessary. Modify AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS [YES] Client Directory: C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 Windows Directory: C:\WINDOWS LAN driver type: 32-bit LAN drivers LAN driver: Intel EtherExpress(TM) 10 ISA LAN Adapter 10 Novell NetWare will now copy the files to your workstations and modify the configuration files to match your selected configuration. Hints and Tips for Client 32 DOS installation --------------------------------------------- 1 Check for a LASTDRIVE statement in the CONFIG.SYS file. You must have LASTDRIVE=Z in CONFIG.SYS when using Client 32. 2 Verify that you have FIRST NETWORK DRIVE = F in the NET.CFG file under the NetWare DOS Requester section. NOTE: NET.CFG is position sensitive, so be careful to indent lines with one space or one tab as shown above in the example. 3 Verify that the EtherExpress adapter passes the diagnostics test by running EX10SET.EXE on the EtherExpress driver disk. If the adapter fails diagnostics it will not function correctly running Client 32. 4 If you get the message listed below when the driver is loading, you have Plug and Play enabled on the adapter and/or are using the Plug and Play driver. Disable Plug and Play on the adapter and reinstall Client 32 using the non - Plug and Play driver. "Plug and Play is activated on this adapter. You must use the slot parameter to specify a Plug and Play adapter when used in a NetWare Server."
