I follow all the steps but when I play the game, it searches on my and b floppies while it says initiallizing MT-32, and then quits saying not enough memory. I am sure I have enough memory though. Has anyone gotten this to work with dune 2? I run QEMM v.7, have 8 megs of ram and a microsoft mouse driver loaded. Message-ID: <9307022232.AA05164@itchy> I know, I know... I keep saying the digest will be moving... But now I'm changing jobs, so the Ultrasound Lists are going to have to move. I saved all the messages from people who said they could hold the lists at their respective sites; I may be mailing you soon to take you up on the offer. I also need someone to take over maintaining the GUS FAQ; I'm going to barely have enough time to run the lists soon. The next time it will be posted is July 5th; after that, I can't guarantee it will keep going unless someone else takes it. So if you're interested, please mail me. I'll let you all know as soon as I have a site secured. -- Dave ddebry@ debry@ \ DeBry dsd. peruvian. | "I guess you could say it's extremely vulgar. es. cs.utah. | I like it a lot." com edu / ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1993 12:20:58 -0400 (EDT) From: Brian Go Subject: GUS disks and OS/2 2.1 Message-ID: I had moved since I registered my GUS, and I sent John Smith my new address. Message-ID: <02JUL93.12855135.0040.MUSIC@POLYTEC1> Frankly, the excuse for all the missing registration cards sucks. Anyone who's move _knows_ about leaving a forwarding address, and those lasts 4 months. You can then extend it or something silly, and there is always the central database with the address changes. Besides, any company that receive any mail should know about this. It's not like it's 4 buddies in a 5 1/2 that are changing location, it's a whole company! In any case, I had an idea about 5 minutes ago when I heard the last person whine about not receiving their registration disk (I haven't, either) : why not start an email server, somewhere, for the damn disks? The way I see it, people don't care for the _disks_, they want the _software_ on it. If it's GUS-related, only GUS-users have any use for it. So what if people copy it? It'll only be used by GUS users, no? Unless of course powerchord and all support other cards. I'm programmer, and I haven't yet played with my GUS SDK. Simply haven't had time. But the way things are going, it's easy to see that every driver GUS has released so far has been far from stable, except maybe 1.20 - 1.22, which some people still swear by. :) I wonder, withall the patches they keep coming up with if the code is not totally cluttered up with useless junk. You simply can't attack a problem like this with a-patch-a-problem. Maybe Linux IS the way to go - you get source with most everything, and thus you have a bunch of people workingon it from different angles. Problems are found much more quickly. Annnyway, maybe it's time for SBOS 3.00, starting from scratch. Heh. Steph. Yeah, I just woke up. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1993 13:26:32 -0400 (EDT) From: treason@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: SBOS and syndicate Message-ID: <9307021726.AA17255@spiff.gnu.ai.mit.edu> Well, I have tried everything to get the GUS to play the digital sounds on syndicate, and as of yet, I have only been able to get the background music. 'Digital sounds' are gunshots, the sound of the explosions, people on fire screaming, time bombs ticking (you really need to hear these), and the sound the terminal screen makes when they fade in and out. My setup is all default 220,7,7,11,5. IF anyone has any ideas, just pass them my way...thanks treason@gnu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jul 93 8:51:26 EDT From: Alan Weisberg Subject: Soft Karaoke & GUS Message-ID: <9307021250.AA13231@orca.es.com> I just purchased and loaded Soft Karaoke on my PC. For those unfamiliar with the product, it's a Windows based program which uses MIDI files combined with the words of the song in text format to emulate a Karaoke machine. It's quite fun, and sounds great with a GUS. Here's my problem. I have a GUS with 1Meg and am using the default Windows/GUS MIDI mapper. I am also loading the 1024K patch set. The program allows me to change the various instruments (such as the instrument which is playing the melody). It appears as if some instrument patches are not loading as selecting some of them yields no output. Should I alter the patch map? Is there something else I should check? In general, all of the songs play with their default instruments. I'd also recommend the program for fun party entertainment.
