It provides a common high- level interface to seven different sound file formats with extras: Pause & Repeat & Volume control, multiple and random song selection, automatic handling of bank files, song titles and lengths, playback from archives, and nice graphics and animation! CD-Box v3.00 is a major update to CD-Box. The most important improvements are the superb graphic enhancements (using ray-tracing software) and full internal support (no need for an external player) for .ROL (good news for AdLib users) and .WAV, in addition to .CMF, .MOD and .VOC. Other changes include the capability to scan multiple drive/directories, repeat & echo buttons, support for any player (even if it changes the video mode) and for .PAK archives, much faster and efficient code, and classier "look and feel". I got them installed and things worked - pretty much. As always, MIDI has some problems (at least since the GM patch set came out). Windows still dies when I play MIDs that use any of the flute patches (returning EMM386 exception error #06), and there are occasionally wrong note "blurbs" thrown in and abbreviated notes. The real problem now is with PLAYMIDI. Why would it return an error "error on patch load info" for marcato (tremstr)? *None* of the songs I have that use this patch work, but it works just fine with Winjammer. So why won't PLAYMIDI load these MIDs? Anyone have any suggestions for the above problems? I'm more concerned with getting PLAYMIDI to work - that way I can at least play things back without killing my machine and rebooting (like Windwoes does). Why don't we have a section of the journal for technical tricks & tips. I am new to IBM environment, since I used Amiga for more than 5 years, I am sometimes lost in all the IBM jumpers, config.sys, memory management etc. It would be nice if we could have a section that would be available for tricks & tips. User and Gravis tech. could write in a section dedicated to technical information. The journal could greatly help those how are also new to music, Midi, and most of all those topics applicated for the Ultra sound. The first question that I would ask is; I don't know if I didn't understanded a message in june 9 Daily, but is sound produced with gus influenced by the patch loaded in ultras sound ram? So, if the gus is influenced with patch, is more ram a must to have better sound in games that use GUS? Finally, how do we process to know what patches, to load to have good GUS performance?? Yeah thats a good question, Is there someway the Ultrasound driver could be written (or a differnt windows util perhaps) that traps and saves all the info being sent to the midi port, that way, we could see which patches its selecting, and load them ourselves in interludes! I have several games that use different sbos options. So when I finish playing one of those games, I must unload sbos and reload it with the correct options before I play the next game. Besides using the u bat files, is there a way that sbos can automatically load the correct options? Message-ID: <1v1jbpINNjv8@iskut.ucs.ubc.ca> ReprintFrom: comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard Hey everyone, you all probably didn't know this but we actually ran out of disk space in one of our GUS archive today (epas). My god this thing is getting big! I validated a bunch of files and cleaned some things up so we have some more space now. But I'll have to ask Adam if he can dig up more space cause we'll really run out of room fast at this rate. How big is it you ask? Well, I checked and we have now reached the 140 Mb plateau! Wow. The card has only been out for .... has it been half a year yet? And we have already surpassed the size of a number of the other archives. In fact, as far as soundcard archives go, I'm not sure if the others are even close. And at the rate we're going.... Way to go everyone! Thanks for all the support! And now that SDK (software development kit) is available for public download, one can only imagine the things to come. The amount of players and the quality of sound files we have in our archive is already showing why the Ultrasound is one awesome soundcard: technologically, support wise, popularity wise.... and with interest increasing exponentially, programmers and musicians contributing to our archive worldwide, one can only imagine how much better the Ultrasound can get. Boy, GUSmania has really exploded. We have support and discussions EVERYWHERE. Multiple ftp archives, multiple mailing lists, Gravis BBS with multiple lines, local BBSs around the world acting as Fidonet node for Gravis, programs being written even before the sdk came out, public programming info even before Gravis revealed anything, now a free software development kit ready for download straight from Gravis, and while others are still trying to catch up to our wavetable synthesis technology, we are already talking about 3D and even have 2 demos out to show it off. Is this an exciting card or what? Thanks to everyone for their continual support and welcome to all newcomers. Things have only just begun and we are in for one hell of a ride. ;) Let's make this the best soundcard it can be. If you have any questions whatsoever, just ask. Anything from a list of local BBS phone numbers for Gravis' Fidonet nodes, to which mailing list you should subscribe to for programming info. There are tons of people out there willing to help. The main GUS digest have already skyrocketed to god knows how many members. And things will only get better for the GUS! Happy GUS'ing!
