Message-ID: Dune 2 crashes when ever a digital sound is played. I have tried different combinations of SBOS (-o1 -o2 -x1) and different versions of SBOS (1.20 1.22 1.23 1.3 1.44 2.04) None of them work. Most of the time it crashes right after I put in the Radar Installation. I can play the silly game without loading SBOS [No sound] but It really is no fun without it! SEND HELP! I can use the Ultrasound MIDI Synth fine, or I can use the Voyetra driver, but not both at once (darn). Now, I'm no Windows guru, so hopefully someone can answer: What do I do with the MIDI Mapper? I can't get rid of it (Windows requires it?), and whenever I try to actually set it up, it complains that I'm referencing some unknown device(!). Am I correct in assuming that the GUS MIDI Synth just bypasses this MIDI Mapper, so I can just ignore the MM? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1993 11:59:53 +0501 (EDT) From: Gunnar Swanson Subject: How do I play some of thes midifiles Message-ID: Hello everybody, There seems to be alot of neat stuff my GUS can do that I am missing out on. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can play some of the neat musical files that everyone talks about. What is a good Midi patch file player for DOS\Windows. What else can I do to write my own songs. Thanks for any info you can give me. Message-ID: <9304250346.AA07766@spp2.jsp.umontreal.ca> Howdy GUS users, It has come to my attention that printing in Windows while MIDI Jukebox is playing a couple of tunes can be problematic. The printing is done, but behold! Letters are switched around, like in my last print, U's became M's and M's became spaces. Mmmh. I instantly (almost ;-) checked for a culprit, tried re-printing without MIDI Jukebox and voila. For those curious, here goes my hardware: 386-33Mhz, 4Mb RAM, running DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1, and of course a GUS with install disks 2.04 and the latest Jukebox. I'd like to know tho' if anybody else experienced this? o \ Vasgrav: CS student, amateur | o// | o/ Walley-ball astronomer, hacker, gamer, | | | /| player in the day, MUDer, IRCer, and on and on .... | // \\ star gazer at night. I KNOW many windows midi programs like Cakewalk require manual patch loading, BUT if you read the gravis help in windows it says that many windows applications SUCH AS 'Midisoft Recording Session' (among others) ALREADY support patch caching.. So HOW do you get patch caching to work with this program? Any help PLEASE!!! Another thing, I saw the 'top mods' list, how about a much more relevant list for us GUS owners, 'Best mids' list, particuarly the best sounding ones on the GUS, Im thinking of getting a chart together, and I know which ones I'd vote for (bells.mid, 5thsymp.mid, comesail.mid .. ) Anyone interested email me with your best! -- | adrianr@ecr.mu.oz.au --------| Adrian -aka- Plugger | * * * * * | _/_\ | adrianr@mullian.ee.mu.oz.au -| What time is love? | *_* * *_ *_ | / OZ | | adrianr@mundil.cs.mu.oz.au --| I think its gonna be | * * * * * | \__-_/ | -- I want more accounts! ----| long, long time. | * * * * * | v ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 93 10:24:15 MES From: fischer@tmpmbx.netmbx.de (Axel Fischer) Subject: Strike Commander & GUS Message-ID: Hello, just bought Strike Commander and was pleased to notice that it works perfect with SBOS 2.04. Options are -o2 and -p. Absolutly great, digitized speech is great too. Engine noise is a bit off, but I can live with all. All other things are ok. I get the speech package today, but i would guess it will work like SC. -Axel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1993 23:43:38 -0700 (PDT) From: I/We are Gaia Subject: Want to find out more about GUS Message-ID: I have had the card for about as long as some of the people on this list, say Nov 1992. I have read ALOT of stuff on this digest, and on c.i.p.c.s about the GUS, what it can and can't do, what it may and will do, etc. I have just been screwing around with MIDI lateley, with winjammer, and other stuff, and just was also playing around with some mods. Anyway here are my questions.. What exactly are all the specs for the card, and what do they mean.. I have seen the definitions before, but it never interested me until now. You know 16 channel, 32 voices, etc. What does it all mean, and what does the GUS have. I notice that sometimes the patches aren't mapped right in the file, and I have to plug something else in with Winjammer to make it sound right. A lot of the times it is some sort of precussion. One thing that I want to point out at this time is that whenever I try to load a precussion patch on channel 10 (you are supposed to use this channel right?) it has a problem, sometimes it loads it, sometimes it loads it but tells me it didn't, sometimes it doesn't use the patch number I give it. I am a total novice when it comes to midi, so any help in defining it would help. I know that the MT-32 is one of the GM maps, and was wondering if someone could e-mail me the defintions, I do have the GM map, you know the numbers, and which instruments. I just want to see if I can screw around with midi mapper in windows, and see what it does, so if I get a roland file, I can just load up a pre-made map file for the mt-32.. Anyway, I am sure I will be asking some more questions, but that ought to keep you guys busy for a while... :) Thanx Gaia ------------------------------ End of Ultrasound Daily Digest V3 #25 ************************************* Digest Address: ultrasound@dsd.es.com To post to tomorrow's digest Request Server Address: ultrasound-request@dsd.es.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, and request files Owner Address: ultrasound-owner@dsd.es.com To contact a human if the server has troubles FTP Sites: archive.epas.utoronto.ca pub/pc/ultrasound wuarchive.wustl.edu systems/msdos/ultrasound
