Does anyone out there know how I can get the GUS to work with Links386? I have gotten SBOS 2.04 and the Links 1.08 upgrade off the net, and it still doesn't work. Anyone have any success? Help me!!! Roger Clark helios@bach.udel.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1993 13:19:29 -0400 From: Michael C Irvin Subject: Patch errors! Message-ID: <93Apr18.131936edt.14343-3@smith.crayola.cs.psu.edu> I recently read that someone was having problems in windows dealing with patch errors. I, too, when trying to start up a DOS BOX get the following error: "error on load of patch library(C:\ULTRASND\SBOS\sboslib.sbs)" I tried the post's suggestion of taking all of the SBOS files out of the c:\ultrasnd directory and putting them into the c:\ultrasnd\sbos directory and adding that to the path. When I did that, it told me that the windows driver was not installed properly and that it could not find one of the files. I think that I needed to reboot the machine and rerun windows. (things have been strange lately!) I'm not sure if I can describe everything that I have tried, but could someone please explain what this might mean? I'm not dumb, but if it knows where the sboslib.sbs file is and it is in the path then why can't it find it? (Is the file bad?) In the end, I think that moving the SBOS files to the SBOS directory ended up working in windows ok, but when starting up a DOS BOX I still got that error. Oh...and after that windows wouldn't play anything through the GUS and wouldn't quit with rebooting. (very irrating) Ok..maybe a little away from the GUS: I've been having problems in general with getting to a DOS prompt. Sometimes when I start a dos box, it *immediately* gets to a dos prompt with windows gone. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I mean by the time I double click on DOS BOX I am back at the DOS prompt with no more windows. (?!?!) I've also notices that when I am accessing another file if I start a dos box it crashs windows leaving the cursor in the upper left corner and if I hit alt-ctrl-del it simply reboots the machine whereas it should tell me the guilty program. Well, I think I am done complaining for a while. I just want to say that I have NEVER had any problem with my GUS and I am very satisfied with it but when it comes to using a DOS BOX lately, boy do I have a HEADACHE!!! Thanks for any advice! I picked it up from CompUSA...they rarely get things the earliest! Just kidding, disregard the previous two sentences. I went to CompUSA, and what did they have? The Strike Commander Speech PACK! It's just like Origin to start hype for their product by shipping all the accessories to a game engine, before the actual game is released! Anyway I hope Strike Commander will work with SBOS, since I'd hate to think I wasted $16 on the speech pack. Interestingly enough, the box says"NOT COMPATIBLE WITH DISK COMPRESSION SOFTWARE." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1993 23:11:11 -0400 (EDT) From: treason@gnu.ai.mit.edu Subject: Ultima 7 problems Message-ID: <9304190311.AA02684@spiff.gnu.ai.mit.edu> Well, I still cannot get U7 Part 2 to run. All settings on my GUS are default, I have the disk set 2.01 with SBOS 2.04, use no settings, have the patch fiules for the sound driver, UMB_DRVR.SYS with chipset 14, and it dumps me to 40 column mode before anything at all happenes. I load ultrinit, have my blaster setting set, have the ultradir set, shit I have EVERYTHING right. I have a 386/25dx, 80 Meg HD (stacked, stacker 3.0) IDE controller, Gravis, Trident 2.11C (trident 4.01 also, but dont know whats better about it, any clues???), No idea what the problem is. I also reinstalled wc I, and the sound works great, but the joystick only works for a few minutes, as does the mouse...Any ideas on this??? Same setup as above.
